She Dies at the End
November Snow Book 1
A.M. Manay

Fiction - Supernatural

“Our gifts are our curses,” is a statement that can aptly be used to describe the predicament of November Snow, a young woman with extraordinary psychic gifts, whose tragic story is narrated in the first book of the November Snow series, She Dies at the End. In a world where people easily go from the small skirmishes of life to wars of staggering proportions, who wouldn’t love to ally with someone who can see beyond the present? It is in such a world that November evolves, and while she’s not of any interesting background — the daughter of a woman who sleeps in a trailer — she has the one thing that everyone covets. Will she give in to their wishes, or will she fight to impose her own terms? A.M. Manay has created an exciting and beautiful world with all sorts of creatures that readers will love to read and talk about.
I was first drawn to this book because of the title and the synopsis that offered a powerful dilemma. It’s intriguing to read about a character with psychic powers, one who can see the future, and of course, her own death. The question is: Does she know she will die, and what will she do about it? From the very beginning, readers are hooked because the author carefully introduces them to the extraordinary psychic gift of the protagonist with a vision in which “she sees them bury her.” Indeed, from that moment on, and that is from the very first page, the reader already has many questions he or she wants answered and A.M. Manay answers them with skill and great imagination.
I loved the well-grounded and highly convincing characters — even the creatures of myth that seem to walk side by side with humans, like vampires. She Dies at the End features a character that readers will easily sympathize with, but they will love the multilayered conflict and the neat and beautiful prose even more. If you’re a fan of fantasy, then this book is a great adventure.

Fiction - Supernatural

In a great new work of supernatural fiction by author Linda Poitevin, Sins of the Lost, one of the books in the fantastic Grigori Legacy series, readers will be treated to the continuing story of homicide detective Alexandra "Alex" Jarvis. In a literal fight between good and evil, Alex finds herself pitted against the powers of Lucifer and his Nephilim army. Alex is desperate in her battle to save humanity, but when Lucifer kidnaps her niece as vengeance for the recent deaths of some of his Nephilim children, her desperation rises to a level she's not sure she can overcome. Heaven is demanding that Seth be returned to them, also something Alex isn't sure she has the ability to deliver on. Will Alex and humanity prevail this time, or will Lucifer have the final destruction he aims for? You'll need to read this great book to find out!
I so enjoyed Sins of the Lost. Author Linda Poitevin has done a fantastic job in continuing the story of characters that readers have connected with and care about, and her writing is so exciting that it leaves one breathless at times. Readers will find themselves up much later than they ever anticipated, when reading 'just one more chapter' will lead to finishing this whole book in one night. It's just so good you won't want to put it down! I highly recommend Sins of the Lost to any reader who enjoys supernatural fiction, or to anyone who is looking for a great read of fiction in general, and I will certainly look forward to reading more from the very talented author, Linda Poitevin, as soon as I possibly can!

The Spectrum Conspiracy

Fiction - Suspense

The Spectrum Conspiracy by Craig Faris is a novel about your worst nightmares: weapons of mass destruction, terrorists, and political conspiracy. It opens with the assassination of the President of the United States during a speech, and progresses on a wild ride that involves the FBI, Homeland Security, Cabinet Level officials, scientists, conspirators, and even ordinary, everyday people with an ugly ax to grind with the government. The most interesting of these characters are Special Agent Dervin Crosby, who is struggling to salvage his career after a devastating error several years prior, and his friend Gerald McMullin, a reporter who thinks he's chasing a woman he met on a chance encounter, but is actually on the verge of something much bigger.
The Spectrum Conspiracy is by far one of the most intriguing political thrillers I've read over the past few years. While the cast of characters is expansive, they're tied together in ways that aren't too obvious or too complicated. Likewise, the plot weaves through these characters in an intriguing and interesting way. Directly or indirectly, it all works together perfectly in a story that's fast paced, thrilling, and keeps you guessing until the very end. Craig Faris did an excellent job not only with the research, but with keeping the book and the cast of characters moving together without making the end too obvious. There are plenty of surprises to keep you reading. I'm happy to give this thrilling, fast paced adventure a five star review, and I highly recommend it to anybody that enjoys adventure, suspense, or political thrillers.

The Blow-up Man

Fiction - Suspense

In a great new story by debut author Nina Blakeman, The Blow-up Man is a thriller that will keep readers obsessively turning the pages from the very start all the way through until the very end, determined to find out what happens. Follow the story of Faye Brady, a woman who thinks she may have found love with Dr. Todd Davis, her mentor, as she is preparing for her PhD. His life definitely comes with complications, however, including the mother of his twin daughters, Annette. Faye has little experience in the world of love, and certainly none of the dangerous manipulations and vengefulness of a person like Annette. Will Faye survive to be with the man she loves? You'll need to read the book to find out!
I very much enjoyed The Blow-up Man. Author Nina Blakeman has done a great job in creating characters that her readers will connect with, relate to, and truly come to care about, thinking about long after the story is done. If that isn't a hallmark of a great author, I'm not sure what is. The story is one that kept me on the edge of my seat. It is quite the psychological thriller and was full of twists and turns I truly did not expect. For a person who reads a great deal, and can usually figure out the ending of books well in advance, this was quite a treat! I am pleased to be able to recommend this book, and look forward to reading more from the promising author, Nina Blakeman, as soon as she has something else available.

Fiction - Thriller - General

In an exciting, thrilling and very adventurous book by debut author Joseph John, The Eighth Day is a story that will keep readers riveted to the page from the very first all the way through to the end. Follow the story of protagonist Shawn Jaffe as he learns that his life may not be what he thought. When a stranger approaches him, tells him that his name is not Shawn, he's not an investment broker, and he's not from Ohio, and then disappears, his life is changed forever. He realizes that someone has been controlling him and his memories, and he's not sure why. But if he doesn't find out, his very life may be in danger.
I so enjoyed The Eighth Day. Author Joseph John has done a fantastic job in writing a real nail biter of a story that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. His ability to create characters that his readers will find interesting, will relate to, and will ultimately care about is second to none. Some of the scenes are so well described that readers will feel as if they are truly in the scenes with Shawn, and gasping for breath to keep up. Any reader who enjoys action, adventure, a thrilling read with a mysterious backdrop, or just a great work of fiction should absolutely read The Eighth Day. I highly recommend this book, and am hoping that author Joseph John is already hard at work on a follow up. I, for one, will be keeping my eye out for it!

The Conversion Prophecy
Michael Solomon

Fiction - Thriller - Terrorist

The Conversion Prophecy by Michael Solomon is a brilliantly wrought thriller that masterfully handles very relevant themes, especially terrorism in its sleek and unpredictable form. The author writes about terrorism and power control, but he does so from a perspective that is unique and new, a work that will be loved by fans of The Icarus Agenda by Robert Ludlum.
What if a tiny group of Muslim extremists could control every aspect of power in the corporate world? What if the notion of democracy as we know it was replaced by a new form of demagogy, with the entire world's economy run by a select few who set the rules and determine who gets what and how anything should work? As improbable as it may sound, it's about to happen and the mastermind behind such a scheme is as cunning, as brilliant, and as skilled as it is dangerous. A Muslim extremist group has made very serious demands on all nations and if these demands are not met within 180 days, then the world stands to suffer the worst of deprivations. Who can stop them? And can the person do so before the world is submerged in a new form of darkness?
The Conversion Prophecy echoes the fears of millions of people and tells of a reality that is already taking place in some parts of the world. As one reads Michael Solomon's work, one is gripped by the fear that ours could already be the dystopian period that has faintly brushed our hearts in our dreams. The writing is tight and crisp, with characters that will grab the reader's attention. But the images offered are as powerful as they are frightening. This book could make for a fascinating motion picture.

The Velvet Rope

Brent Lymer

Fiction - Urban

The Velvet Rope is a memoir written by Brent Lymer, detailing life as a nightclub doorman in the 1990s. Working in a low-paying, high risk job is the most fun that Brent had ever had. Wearing a suit and working in an office means having to be careful at all times that you don’t offend or hurt people’s feelings, but working the door at a busy nightclub allows him to act like a man and enjoy life at the same time. Whenever Brent shows up at his day job, sporting a black eye after a rough night on the job, he tells the curious-minded that it is a sports injury from a hockey stick during a game from the night before. Some believe him. One of the most important aspects of the job is knowing that your colleagues will have your back (and that they know that you have theirs) at all times. The other is being able to win a debate over whether Superman or Batman would be victorious in a fight against each other. Often, when ‘escorting’ one bad apple from the premises, the bad apple’s friends will want to take you on for simply doing your job. Without backup, 'hockey stick' sporting injuries become a regular event.
I grabbed this book out of intrigue, yet found myself laughing out loud before I had even hit the first chapter. Brent Lymer has a unique spin on the English language which is up front and jumps out at you, tickling your funny bone one minute, while leaving you stunned and fully gobsmacked the next. The Velvet Rope is truly an eye-opener, revealing the perks and perils of being a doorman/bouncer/host. Thanks to Brent Lymer’s hard-hitting delivery, in depth behind-the-scenes views, and stories of the dangers of the job, the humor that keeps the night flowing smoothly, and the rough-and-tumble that drunken patrons put forward, I have a whole new respect for the staff that work the door of any establishment, keeping the patrons and employees safe while ensuring their own people stay in one piece by the end of the night. I very much enjoyed reading The Velvet Rope and recommend it to anybody who loves a good laugh while learning about the unsung heroes that keep us safe at party time.

The Maynwarings
Digger Cartwright

Fiction - Western

The Maynwarings by Digger Cartwright is everything a western novel should be and so much more. The Maynwarings are an influential family living in Carson City, Nevada, shortly after the Civil War during the time of reconstruction. Barron is the head of the family as well as the State Senator, dividing his time between Washington, D.C. and his Greenbrier spread, the largest cattle ranch in the area. Carson City is a typical western town until they suddenly begin having all sorts of trouble. There is a hanging, cattle rustling, unexplained killings, sick cattle and mass confusion. There is also a newcomer in town, Gideon Van Thorn. The Maynwarings are slowly able to connect the dots and blame all of the trouble on Thorn and his unruly group of men.
The Maynwarings is 428 pages long and the action is continuous on all of the pages, in each paragraph and in every sentence. Digger Cartwright has written a western story that not only tells the story of the old wild west cowboys and ranchers of early Nevada days, but there is also politics, family, drama, suspense and mystery to keep you reading well into the middle of the night. I found myself looking at the Maynwaring family as old friends. I hurt for their pains, cheered for their joys, and booed the bad guys. The Maynwarings would be such a great movie; I even have a cast of Hollywood stars picked out for them. This is a must-read book; I know you will not be able to put it down until you reach the unexpected ending.

A Drop in the Ocean is a brilliantly well written novel, one that will instantly pull readers into its deepest depths. Jenni Ogden has beautifully woven a story that readers won't easily forget. A story of one woman's journey to life, love, and loss, A Drop in the Ocean is a fictional world where readers will truly lose themselves inside its plot.
Jenni Ogden's novel, A Drop in the Ocean, is the first of her novels that I have read. After reading this compelling story, I have fallen in love with Jenni Ogden's work. In a world depicting one very intelligent yet strong woman, Anna Fergusson isolates herself inside her work. This work requires a lot of back breaking old-fashioned research. It's not until her 49th birthday that she reads a letter that will forever change her life. The life and work that she has come to know and love is taken away, but still she hopes for a miracle. Soon, she finds herself on an island and discovers a lot more to life than just research.
Readers will laugh and cry and want to hug Anna Fergusson as the scenes unfold. But that's not all. Readers will be taken into the vivid imagery of the island and the turtles. A beautiful world indeed. Life throws us curve balls and here we see Anna struggle with the ones tossed her way. Jenni Ogden's story is realistic and heartfelt. This is a must-read for all. A breathtaking journey of second chances. Life, love, and loss are strong themes that will lure readers back to this unforgettable novel. I loved it! A powerful read that I highly recommend to readers everywhere.

Out of The Box Awakening

Fiction - Womens

Out of The Box Awakening by Jennifer Theriot is a story of compassion, love, and embracing your true feelings. Olivia is a woman who never does anything half way. She is the perfect woman, dedicated to her children, her husband, and her marriage. However, making sure that everything is perfect in the lives of her children and husband has taken a toll on her life. When her husband wants to move the family to another city, she agrees. But the new place had some new surprises, including finding out that her husband cheated on her.
Devastated, she found Ash. Ash, much like Olivia, is no stranger to taking care of everyone else. However, he too has suffered losses and his only solace is his music. When Olivia meets Ash, things are platonic and all about music. Together, they make a new family for themselves, a family that loves music just as much and appreciates them. But there is too much chemistry between Ash and Olivia, so much that it is getting hard to ignore it. Will they ignore their chemistry or will they take the leap of faith?
This story is so beautiful that it will take your breath away. This is not your usual romance where the protagonists of the story are in their late twenties and want to steam up every scene. This story is about mature people who understand the realities of life and have lived them in the most brutal fashion. When I say this is a love story, I don’t mean that in the usual sense. There are all kinds of love in this novel; the love of a friend, of a mother, of children, and the new budding love between a man and a woman. It is beautiful, soulful, and very lovely. I have already read it for the second time and it is just as amazing.
