CeCe was living in a reality that only seemed to exist in television and books: the apocalyptic aftermath of the undead taking over the world and with it, a cure that would save both the undead and the living. For Cece, it didn’t seem that long ago when she was out with friends celebrating her eighteenth birthday, and then, in the blink of an eye, it has been two years since she had been bitten and her dad was crying over her battered but no longer zombified body. Everything felt surreal, and it was hard to see her home, once filled with happy memories, destroyed and barely recognizable. Despite her dad’s efforts to make things seem normal, everything felt like a warped version of the reality she once lived in. Will Cece find her place in this shattered version of reality? And, more impossibly, will she find an unexpected connection with someone she least expected? Read Love and Other Cures for the Recently Undead by HJ Ramsay to find out more!

Love and Other Cures For the Recently Undead captivated me from start to finish with its gripping plot and intricate characters. Cece felt understandably off-kilter after being brought back to a post-apocalyptic reality where the people she loved were either dead or missing. She felt numb, and, to me, it seemed like she was viewing the world through a thick veil, unable to deal with everything that had happened so far. Cece’s internal grief and sorrow resonated with me, and I could visualize the story like it was a high-quality movie playing in my head. Every character I encountered was as richly crafted and deeply fleshed out as the main character. The characters and exciting plot captivated me right to the very end, and it was hard to put the book down! I find it even more impressive that despite everything that has happened with the undead, a sweet romance blossomed along the way, like a flower growing through concrete. HJ Ramsay's storytelling was evocative and masterful, and I can’t wait to see what else she has in store for us. Remarkable.

Calla Sweet has lost her job and her last living relative. She relocates to Ireland to reconnect with her ancestry and claim her inheritance. While there, she befriends Saoirse Dunne, a delightful resident who knows everything about the area. Given the circumstances surrounding their meeting, Colm O'Donnell is the one person she desperately wants to learn more about. Colm has an air of seriousness that conceals the pain in his heart, yet a magnetic aura draws her to him, making it difficult for him to resist. Unbeknownst to him, this young woman has the key to a mystery he is determined to unravel in Hanna Park's The Scald Crow.

Hanna Park's The Scald Crow is the first instalment in the Beyond the Faerie Rath series. Park draws inspiration for the world-building from Irish folklore, detailing the intriguing connections between its legendary mystical beings and the deep-rooted beliefs linking the contemporary world to that enchanting realm. She intricately integrates Calla's origin story into the narrative, skillfully concealing significant aspects until the latter stages. This unique method will captivate readers, engaging them in discovering Calla's mysterious lineage and making them feel invested in the series. The dialogue flows smoothly, as the detailed narrative emphasizes the Gaelic words in the banter, making the narrative believable. Mystery enthusiasts will find the subplots intriguing, while fantasy purists will appreciate the details about mythical creatures. I was impressed by the seamless transitions between past and present, highlighting Calla's activities and the principal characters' viewpoints. The Scald Crow embodies the ideal fantasy-romance blend. I am keen to read the sequel.

Between Darkness & Light is the third book in Theresa Van Spankeren's War of Destiny series. The story takes place five years after the events that unfolded in book two. Julia finds herself in a precarious place--mentally and emotionally. After betraying her ka-tet to King Valentino, the king of vampires, her friends have begun to shun her. They believe Julia is of unsound mind. After all, she's hearing voices and receiving visions she can't quite explain. Julia reaches out to Matthew, a former ally. He is wary of her, but Julia convinces him to locate Samuel. Their quest is fraught with many challenges. They soon realize there is a dark force operating from behind the shadows. Amid the suspense and danger, Julia's apparitions continue to communicate with her. Will she come to terms with her abilities? Will Matthew and Julia uncover the truth before it's too late? Can they reunite with Samuel? Will Julia ever make amends with her ka-tet?

Between Darkness & Light is an intriguing vampire saga that delves into mental health issues, betrayal, love, loss, forgiveness, and redemption. It is teeming with paranormal elements, fantasy, and adventure. Theresa Van Spankeren does a stellar job with the world-building sequences throughout the novel. She includes just the right amount of action, suspense, political intrigue, hidden motives, tension, and shocking plot twists. As always, Julia's characterization stands out above the rest. I was interested in discovering how Julia would navigate the aftermath of her betrayal. I was very eager to observe her new dynamic with Samuel and the other ka-tet members. Her betrayal left Samuel in a particularly vulnerable state. Samuel and Julia dealt with her deception differently, yet their actions were authentic and relatable. Their susceptibility added depth to the storyline--this is why readers are captivated by these iconic characters. At the same time, Matthew and Julia share a mutual respect that plays out well in the novel. Fans of dark fantasy fiction won't be disappointed. Grab this must-read today.

A Prince of the Djinn: Beyond Midlife Magic by Allie McCormack tells the tale of Amanda, aka Mandy Dupont, a grounded and down-to-earth woman whose world is turned upside down when she acquires a mysterious pendant that houses the ancient and enigmatic Djinn prince, Kieran. Though powerful and impossibly beautiful, Kieran carries the burden of having lived through many centuries, leaving his heart dulled by time. That is, until Mandy’s light rekindles emotions he thought were lost forever. Their connection is immediate yet tender, built not on superficial attraction but on mutual recognition. These two souls, who have stepped back from life's chaos, find each other when they least expected it.

A Prince of the Djinn by Allie McCormack is a beautifully written paranormal romance that blends heartfelt emotion with magic and just a touch of realism. McCormack masterfully paints Mandy not as someone to pity, but rather as a woman with a fierce spirit, humour, and unfulfilled dreams. What makes A Prince of the Djinn truly extraordinary is how it embraces the realities of aging without letting it define the character’s worth or capabilities. Mandy's age and physical limitations are acknowledged, and through that, we see her true strength of will and the beauty of her soul. On the contrary, Kieran's timelessness shows the loneliness and emotional fatigue that immortality can bring. The contrast between these two characters makes the end of this novel that much more significant and impactful. I think this book really touches on love's ability to transcend time, one’s body, and expectations. This novel is truly a rare find in the world of fantasy romance, and I highly recommend it.

With their kingdom’s fate at stake, the royal family is forced to forge unlikely alliances and risk trusting their enemies to protect the kingdom. Lovers of romance paranormal novels with a touch of drama and fantasy will find The Rogues Who Went Rogue by Stina’s Pen an enthralling read. The author whisked me away from reality and hurled me into a world of endless imagination. I was treated to suspense, adventure, and plot twists I never saw coming. The great attention to detail and the vivid depictions of the scenes made me feel like I was next to the cast in every scene, slowly watching the action unfold. The author gives down-to-earth depictions of the cast. Juxtaposing their complex traits made it easy to connect with them. I could relate to Tate’s predicament, and I could not help rooting for him.

Julia was not always a Lost Soul; she was once the daughter of a wealthy man about town in a time when daughters were nothing more than property to be bartered off to the highest bidder in marriage. Julia begins the story by telling us that she is going to write down her history to hopefully rid herself of her nightmares. Given some of the things she experiences, if all she has are nightmares then she is lucky. Julia begins her life naive and thinking that she is worth something, only to be crushed by her father and husband. Luckily, someone is watching out for her and she begins her life as a vampire. Author Theresa Van Spankeren gives the vampire community progressive ideals for the time period; the belief that women are equal to men and not just property. Throughout her life, Julia learns more with the vampires than she ever would have in her worldly life.

Lost Soul (War of Destiny) (Volume 1) begins Julia's story and sets the stage for a saga of the vampire community. There is a war brewing; to live among the humans and befriend them or to use them only as food and kill them. Theresa Van Spankeren gives the reader a look into the world throughout different time periods with the history of different vampires, yet at the same time they all are very progressive in their thoughts, or at least the band that Julia belongs to. The reader is easily able to identify with them and feel for them, wanting them to succeed in their endeavors to bring about change and equality. It is a great read for adults or older, more mature teens.

In Tracking His True Mate by Lynne Stewart, Mariam Hinder is a happily single library assistant who does not wish to be tied down. At 21, members of her Wolf Pack look down on her for not remaining a virgin until the time she meets her True Mate. One night during a dalliance at the Feldman Hotel, Mariam inadvertently meets Trace Everett in the lobby. He immediately identifies her as his True Mate, but Mariam escapes his clutches and goes on the run, much to her own Alpha's chagrin. While Trace does everything to track her down, Mariam finds Tumblewild - a Pack that enables her to work and allows outsiders short stays. Little does she know that Trace is the Alpha of the Tumblewild Pack and he is coming home. Although Trace is angry with her, it is not long before Mariam falls into the role of Luna and is marked by her True Mate. Trust between them builds and Mariam is finally happy and in love... until one of her former lovers from the Dark Claw Pack shows up and kidnaps her, desperate to rescue her from Trace's 'evil' clutches.

Lynne Stewart sure knows how to tell a powerful story. Tracking His True Mate is an exciting and suspenseful page-turner that kept me hooked from beginning to end. It shows that first impressions truly do matter. The rage displayed by the True Mate had Mariam running for her life - as well as the fact that she does not adhere to the 'fictional belief' of true love or True Mates. This is most definitely a love story with more twists than a giant licorice stick, and I eagerly anticipate the release of the second book in The True Mate Shifter Series. Lynne Stewart is a name to watch out for in any bookstore, and I highly recommend Tracking His True Mate to all die-hard fans of werewolf love tales over the age of 15.

With their intense mutual attraction, it doesn't take long for Rowen and Mammoth to fall in love. Meanwhile, Mammoth forms a strong bond with Jacob, with both sharing a connection with the Reaper. With a healthy sprinkling of the supernatural, Nikki Landis delivers an action-packed thrill ride you don't want to miss. Using a fast-paced plot that has its share of twists and turns, the author ensures readers are entertained until the end. The narrative centers around the love story between Rowen and Mammoth, both of whom have distinctive personalities that play the perfect foil to each other. I also enjoyed the relationship between Mammoth and Jacob, an adorable kid. The MC rivalry between the Royal Bastards and the Scorpions is bound to entertain motorcycle aficionados.
