The Six O'Clock Rule "If you're thinking of doing something that might make you look like a dumbass on the six o'clock news, here's a tip. Don't."

The setting is Jacksonville Beach, Florida

The Six O'Clock Rule begins with an action packed shoot out. After a teen dies from a lethal mixture of heroin and cocaine Detective Clay Randall and his team go after the drug dealer. The dealer fires on the team striking Randall. Danny brings down the dealer in a barrage of bullets. Ty and Three Rivers were driving a drunken Bobby home when they spotted former cop Roy Connor man handling a woman. Connor worked for Tony Savoy a slimy defense lawyer. Savoy used drugs to obtain what he wanted. He had been married several times and kept a mistress, Kayla, on the side. That's just the beginning of this action packed thriller.

I was hooked from the first page. I eagerly turned the pages to see what would happen next. The plot is exquisitely well developed and believable. Bruce Thomason is a master at character development. He has included enough twists and turns to keep the reader guessing to the last page. Fans will be thrilled with the latest Clay Randall mystery.

Allison Sutton wants a pet. She has always wanted a pet. However, they rent a house and the owner said no pets allowed. She had a gold fish but it only lived 6 hours.

When the Sutton's move to the country, Allison's room is below ground, but it has a special window, and she can see the stars. One day Allison and some of her friends found a snake in the window well. If a snake could be there just maybe something else could be too. A variety of animals fall into the window well, each making Allison's desire for a pet much stronger.

The Wishing Window Well is a cute read. I had to laugh at the snake, even if I am not fond of them. I was surprised at the author using the names Dr. and Mrs. Sutton so much. The plot would have felt much warmer if the author had used mom and dad more often. The plot is cute and heartwarming. The characters are easy to like. The Wishing Window Well is sure to please children.

This isn't just any cooking book. It has facts about the many things we eat and inadvertently put in our bodies. Many say food is to keep us alive. Thienna Ho has found that it is much more than that. Food is that which helps us live productive and healthy lives. We are what we eat and if we eat junk, our body will reflect this fact. Our hair, skin and energy will suffer if we are not giving our body the right kinds of food. Not only our inner and outer bodies will suffer but also our minds. When we are not healthy our minds too cloud up, and we have a hard time concentrating and making decisions.

In Cooking on the Light Side, the author will teach you, in easy understandable ways, the many facts that surround our food. Then she will help you learn how to get more for your money.

For example, did you know that a study conducted by the University of Missouri reveals that one brand of bottled water contains chemicals that stimulate division in cancer cells? 38 of them contain: coli form bacteria, ammonia, benzene, cyanide, and lead, to name a few toxins. Also, did you know that your tap water could contain 260 contaminants, of which 52 are linked to cancer, 41 are considered hazards to healthy reproduction, 36 are believed to impair development, and 16 are linked with dysfunction of the immune system?

How can you help your body to be healthy? Thienna Ho has found that a diet high in sulfur keeps the body strong and healthy. This greatly helps the oxygen get into your body. I have always known that oxygen is one of the most important components in my body. Where and how I get it should be a major concern for me.

So is this diet hard to follow? The food is easy to find, and it will give you a variety of vegetables that you probably don't know how to use. This is a great opportunity to try something new. The recipes are included with color pictures to get your mouth watering. Give this book a try and your body will thank you. Recommended to Young adults and adults alike.

Cheri Powell offers readers a pre-trip look at traveling to Camino. I found the information on St. James fascinating. James was the Apostle to Jesus Christ. The Apostles scattered after the crucifixion. James went to the Iberian Peninsula (Spain.) He returned to Jerusalem and was beheaded. He was the first martyred apostle. Twenty two miracles are attributed to St. James. There is much more to the legend, but I will allow readers to discover that for themselves.

Powell offers readers a list of what to take with them on this incredible journey. She also offers a list of what not to take: hair dryer, water bottle, night clothes and jewelry. Good walking shoes are a must! The "what to bring list" is thorough and invaluable. I laughed at the list of what clothing you will need. I always over pack. Nightclothes (pjs) are not needed. "When sleeping in a room with up to 100 people privacy is lost."

I found the section on "Some Good Things To Know" filled with excellent information. This section covers everything from hostels to food, water, and currency. Readers will also want to pay particular attention to the section on etiquette. Different countries observe different customs. As a guest it is your responsibility to observe and respect their way of life. Toward the end of the book there are several charts: one is to help figure the cost of the trip and another is for shopping and what you need to take with you. Powell offers internet links for more information. The worksheets are downloadable from the author's website, http://www.CheriPowell.com.

I must say the author has tempted me to visit Camino. If I do make the trip, I will be well prepared thanks to Cheri Powell's Seven Tips to Make the Most of the Camino de Santiago.

Fall 1984: This story begins with a trial. A man was accused of killing his family. Richard King the defense, attorney cared little whether his client was guilty or not. He took the case for the publicity. The accused (Buxley the Butcher) declared his innocence until death by execution. A year later the attorney was found dead in the home of the accused, William Buxley.

Summer 2011: Janet Hale graduated from nursing school after her divorce. She, her son Michael and their dog Lucy moved into the Buxley house never suspecting the danger that awaited them. The Buxley house was filled with great evil. The home had been the site of great violence. The ghosts of the victims awaited a moment for revenge. No one was immune to the evil lurking there. However not even the ghosts are who they seem. Michael and Maggie, his babysitter, turn to an Ouija board looking for answers.

This book is not your typical horror story. The autho's work can be compared to Stephen King and Dean Koontz. Like their books, this plot takes you to unexpected places. There are twists and turns that keep the reader guessing: ghosts slipping in and out of bodies both living and dead, shadows and bumps in the night are the least of the main characters' worries in this book. Fans of horror will not want to miss this creepy story.

Jessamine Rose offers readers a glimpse into her life. She was born in 1937, in a small town in eastern Kentucky. For many her upbringing will seem foreign but for some it will sound all too familiar. The family's cabin was cold, the cracks in the floor made it impossible to heat. The bathroom was an outhouse. Her father often beat her mother. Her father shot her mother to scare her. At one point the family lived under a cliff. In the hills of eastern Kentucky "you could shoot a dog and spend a year in jail, shoot a man and nothing." She faced sexual abuse, beatings, neglect and yet rose above it all. She was a mere 6 years old the first time she was raped. Her mother gave away her young brother and sister. Jassamine made her escape in the back of an ice truck, she was less than 14. She ended up living in a park in Ohio.

The court placed her in a foster home where she started a new life. After her foster parents moved, Jessamine attended Catholic school. She loved the ladies in long black dresses with their heads covered. The nuns were kind to her and she spent many hours talking to them.

After high school she married Boyd. She suffered several miscarriages. She and Boyd decided it was time for her to return to Kentucky and find her family. First she found her father; he furnished phone numbers so that she could track down her mother and siblings. Eventually the family was reunited. Today Jessamine lives in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

Jessamine faced many hardships in her life. Yet her memoir is upbeat. Despite her childhood she came out on top. I wish I had read this book a few weeks ago when I was in Nicholasville, I just might have given Jessamine a call to tell her what a remarkable woman I think she is.

This book needs a wee bit of editing, mostly on the spacing. The title and the cover work well together. This tiny book is a quick read but will stay with the reader long after the last page. There are many family photos that bring the story to life. I wish Miss Jessamine the best and thank you for sharing your story.

In book two of Lynn Dove's Wounded Trilogy, Heal The Wounded, the author takes the reader once again into the lives of the families from the first book as they struggle with their own set of problems. Each teenager is still trying to cope with the death of Ronnie; they all have a healing process to go through as their faith is tested to the max. Jake's family is facing his mother's fight against cancer, while Leigh's family is displaced due to a fire. Leigh and Jake's relationship is tested. Ronnie's brother, Tim, has his own demons to face. Being bullied at school causes him to become self-destructive. There is one special character in this second book that I would like to think of as a little guardian angel: Cassidy, a five year old living with her grandmother, who seems to bring a smile to everyone in the hospital and helps bring a healing process to Tim.

As with the first book, there are many issues dealing with the teenage years and family issues. Each character fights to hold onto his faith in the midst of many upsets and trials. Not only is this a book for teens but also for adults. In today.s world, it's such a busy life that parents seem to ignore the warning signs of their teenagers. I recommend parents and child alike read this book.

Look for the final installment "Love The Wounded" in 2011.

The Story of Moses written by Jennifer Talbot Ross is the true story of Ms. Ross and the remarkable dogs she was lucky enough to have in her life. To tell the story of Moses the author shares with us the stories of the other dogs she had prior to Moses, and how each dog impacted her life and ultimately led her to Moses.

The first dog we are introduced to is Cleopatra (Cleo), a beautiful lab who was rescued by Ms. Ross's grandmother and daughter. Being a single mother at the time she was hesitant to take the puppy, but she couldn't resist. While the author states she had always had animals in her life, it really seems that Cleo opened her heart for the love affair she shared with dogs in her adult life.

In addition to Moses and Cleo, we also read the stories of Odin, Bess, Samantha and Pax. As the author shares each of their stories, you feel the love the author has for her dogs. She shares their funny antics as well as their sometimes neurotic behavior. When Moses comes into her life from an ad on Petfinder.com, she finds a gentle giant of a dog that seems to love life who felt it was his job to take care of her. While cancer cut Moses' life short, she was blessed to have shared five years with him!

The author has a wonderful way of writing that makes you feel as if you are listening to an old friend talk about her pets. Her love of animals comes across so strongly that the emotions jump off the page at you allowing you to share her joys and also her grieving when she loses a beloved pet. She also shares with the reader bits of interesting information about the breeds of dogs she has. I also felt the information she included in the back of the book about the SPIN, Saving Pyrenees In Need, was great, and her reminder that rescue animals make wonderful pets was the perfect ending to Moses' story.

A heartwarming story that all animal lovers should read, I only wish the author would have included more pictures of her beloved animals! If you’re on the fence about getting a pet you should read these stories. They just might help you realize your new best friend is just waiting for you!

While scripture tells us to forgive and forget, it isn’t easy. There are some hurts that just aren’t that easy to get over. Unfortunately, when we hang on to them, we only hurt ourselves. Anger can take over our lives preventing us from finding the true joy of each day. Anger can affect our health, our work, our sleep, our relationships, and our attitudes.

Romans reminds us to love our enemies. It is easy to love those who love us but a lot harder to love our enemies. It does not say forgive those who ask forgiveness. It does say if our enemies are hungry we should feed them. This is a totally different concept than most of us live. It is only through God that we can forgive. To forgive doesn’t necessarily mean to pretend something never happened. It means to deal with it. The victim and the offender may never have a relationship again. Forgiveness should mean moving closer to God and allowing Him to meet the needs of both parties.

NEW DIGS...Abandoning The Bog of Bitterness by Pamella Ann Miller is a workbook to help readers deal with bitterness. There are 6 phases discussed in this book. Miller has humorously and creatively named these phases: Swamp City, Hiatus Township, Uncertainty Village, Prideful Palisades, Cape Horizon, and Renewal Island. One of my favorite things in this book is the author’s interpretation of the Lord’s Prayer. NEW DIGS is written in a simple, easy-to-understand, and interesting manner. The book’s cover is creatively done and tempts the reader to pick it up and delve inside. This book could be used as a small group study or an individual study.

This book is about a Rabbit named Peter. He whines and cries especially when he doesn't get his way. Peter is always complaining and whining when he thinks someone got more of something than he got.

When he gets too whiney, his mother always tells him to go take a nap or play with his toys. But one night Peter's mother gets very upset with his whining and sends him to his room. All of a sudden Peter finds himself in the woods and meets some little men who whine and cry like he does! What happens when he sees how they act up?

This is a cute "moral" story. It is written so younger children would enjoy and relate to it. It is very well illustrated.
