In Memoriam: 27, Poet Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote, “It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.” This is a semi-appropriate statement describing The Best Is Yet To Come by Tara R. Alemany. I used the word semi-appropriate because the author would agree and yet would add that the love she shared with Frank is not lost. She will be reunited with him in eternity. Tara was a single parent for twelve years. She never expected to fall in love again. Then Frank came into her life, all because of an email. Their relationship was one of strong love, yet unfortunately he passed away after only four months. In The Best Is Yet To Come, Tara R. Alemany shares their love and her grief. It is obvious they had a very special relationship because Tara was the woman created for Frank. The author shares the relationship Frank developed with her children. After the loss of Frank, Tara extended love to Frank’s father.

The Best is Yet To Come by Tara R. Alemany is an inspiring true story; a moving story of their love that will bring both tears of joy and tears of sorrow. This book is filled with poetry, Tara’s inner thoughts and meditation. The Best is Yet To come has short chapters allowing the reader to meditate on the author's experiences and wisdom. This format turns each chapter into a lesson. While this book is about death, it can also be applied to many other areas of life. Beautifully written, this book will inspire the reader to search their soul.

3 Off the Tee: No Excuses, The Fit Mind-Fit Body Strategy Book by Lorii Myers is a motivational self-help book that guides readers through the mind and body connection path in order to achieve success in every aspect of their life. The focus is on physical activity and correct diet in conjunction with a mental strength – by exercising body and mind, people will become healthier and fitter, regardless of their age. The book carries readers through a few steps they need to take to reach their goal: from training the brain by learning something new all the time, to managing excuses, visualizing aspirations, and finding the strategy that works. The reference to the golf game throughout the book, starting with the title, is an analogy for the continuous improvement process that one needs to adopt so as to eliminate excuses and succeed.

The book is informative and enjoyable. The golf metaphor is subtle, contributing to the overall understanding of the concept, even for non-golfers. The action plans in the second part are designed to apply the concepts of the book while reading it, so at the end you will start your own journey towards the fit mind-fit body strategy. The final chapters on recommended caloric intake, healthy eating, and exercising routine suggestions are useful, thus making this a life changing manual you can revisit any time. I highly recommend the book for anyone who wants to start their fit mind-fit body regime, regardless of their age or fitness level. I surely started mine!

Literary Legends of the British Isles, The Lives and Burial Places of 50 Great Writers, by Michael Thomas Barry, is a wonderful look at great writers of the late medieval and early modern periods, and the 19th and 20th centuries. Little known information about their lives is revealed, with photos of the writers where available and of their grave sites and homes. Any writer, reader, or person interested in the British Isles would love this book and perhaps even become interested in visiting these historic sites. Literary Legends is beautifully compiled, and I especially love the photos of the formal gardens which surround some of the homes and burial sites.

You may find your favorite authors among the pages of Literary Legends. Jane Austen is here, George Orwell, Bram Stoker, Mary Shelley, and Oscar Wilde, as well as Shakespeare, Chaucer, and Thomas Wyatt of the Henry VIII period and reputed lover of Anne Boleyn. The Bronte sisters —Charlotte, Emily, and Anne — discovered that they were all writing secret poetry and then got together to publish a book of poetry under male pen names. Many female authors of this period did this, whether to avoid disgracing husbands or family, or because women were not taken seriously I am not sure. George Eliot is another example. Michael Thomas Barry, himself a prolific author, has degrees in Criminal Justice and History. His other books include descriptions of other final resting places, and in addition he writes a column for Crime Magazine, On This Day in Crime History.

A Trip to the Hardware Store & Other Calamities by Barbara Venkataraman is a book of short stories that reflect on her family and some of her quirks, and ideas.

I love love loved this book! I felt like I was listening to a dear friend talk while I was reading it. I felt that Lazy Bones was about me. I am a short-cut taker and I always joke that it is because I am efficient. Where Did the Time Go was very heartwarming. When Venkataraman talks about how her dad is losing it a bit, but that it's a good thing because it means he is more carefree, it instantly made me feel better about ageing. I always watch my kids and envy how carefree they are. I had never thought about the elderly that way before. It made me happy. Beyond Belief was very cute and had a really charming dynamic between husband and wife. I really feel Venkataraman saved the best for last though. High Finance was my favorite. It showed such a wonderful family bond.

I really like Barbara Venkataraman’s writing style. She conveys so much heartwarming emotion without spelling out what she wants you to feel. This is a great read. I would recommend it as a purse book. Stuff it in your purse and pull it out and read it in line at the bank, or in the waiting room at the pediatrician. It will definitely bring a smile to your day.

Naked on The Bench: My Adventures in Pianoland is an engaging memoir written by Robin Spielberg, a renowned composer, pianist, and recording artist. As a child, Robin has a recurring dream and this will have a lasting impact on the little girl. Hyperactive and obviously talented, she believes everyone goes through life with music playing in their minds like she does. She also chronicles her life as a budding artist and regales her readers with her triumphs and failures. In New York, she divides her time between playing the piano in upscale places and acting in theater, eventually ending up as one of the founders of a theater company. As she tells of her professional struggles as an artist, we also get a glimpse of the trials and triumphs in her personal life and this makes her story quite endearing.

There is no doubt that Robin Spielberg leads a charmed life but reading her memoir makes me realize that the lady is exceedingly charming herself. She tells her story with sprinklings of wit and humor, and dashes of sadness and sorrow. With careful attention to detail, she takes us with her as she traverses her path to follow her dreams. Her book is full of funny narratives about a young woman who is not only passionate about her art but also about life in general. Indeed, this memoir is a must-read for all who are trying to find their place in the world. In the end, one cannot help but admire Spielberg’s drive and determination, not only to reach the pinnacle of success but most especially to find the real measure of her triumphs.

The Big Secret by D. W. Boorn is a must-have for every parent as it will help children with the transition from believing in Santa Claus to knowing the truth about the magic of Christmas. The Big Secret asks and double checks that the reader is ready to learn the truth about Santa Claus and be added to the list to be a part of the Big Kids’ Club. If the reader is ready to take this enormous step, then he or she should turn the page, add his or her name to the list and be prepared to learn the truth about Santa Claus. The legend of Santa Claus is shared as well as the concept of magic; both the magic of things that can be seen and those magical things that cannot be seen. The magic of Christmas and the season is explained as well with examples of how children can also share in this magic.

I absolutely love The Big Secret and it has found a spot on my bookshelf. It will be used when my children are ready to write their names on the list to join the Big Kids’ Club! D. W. Boorn addresses the concept of Santa Claus for children who are transitioning out of the stage of believing in Santa Claus. It is explained in such a way that Christmas is seen in a whole new light, but it is still just as magical a time as when Santa Claus was believed in, maybe even more magical!

This book is really for anyone of any religion and does not delve into specific religious beliefs, merely the concept of Christmas being a magical time of the year due to the fact that people are kinder to each other at this time and are overall a better person. I love the look and the layout of this book as it really does look magical as if containing secrets within the pages.

Understanding the relationship between a husband and wife is key for anyone who hopes to enter into this covenant. But it takes more to have a good relationship between the two than just loving each other. You have to be able to balance different aspects of your personalities and to not only teach him but learn yourself as well. There is a lot to learn about men and not only what they need, but how to get what you need from them. Wife for Life by Ramona Zabriskie is definitely a great guide to becoming a happy and efficient wife.

If you’re not sure about entering into marriage or what it’s going to be like, then this book is very helpful. As a soon-to-be-wife myself, I was a little nervous about how things were going to go. Reading this book gave me a bit more information about how to understand a man. They really are a whole different species and sometimes it can be hard to get them to tell you what they want or need. So that’s why this book is such a great help. For any woman out there who wants to be a good wife and have a long and happy marriage, this book will tell you why and it will tell you how at the same time. I think I’ll be better prepared for my own marriage just by understanding the man I'm about to marry a little better. Wife for Life is definitely a helping hand.

“In Him we live, move and have our being.” This is what St. Paul told the great thinkers of his day when he visited the Areopagus in Athens. Like St. Paul, Istvan Kolossvary is making a similar appeal to those who would be the great thinkers of our day. In The Fabric of Eternity: A Scientist's View of the Works of Providence, we are led on a journey through the various arguments of science in order to see that it all boils down to making a choice between a universe with direction and purpose or a “go it alone” universe which in some ways actually contradicts the existence of free will. Through the infinite coordinate planes that can be joined in order to create the timeless space in which we live, the possibility of a God who not only sees and knows all, but can view all of it in one single glance will make your head spin. From this purely scientific discussion, one is still left with a choice.

Though I must admit that a great amount of this book was over my head, I was able to picture many of the images that Istvan Kolossvary provided within The Fabric of Eternity: A Scientist's View of the Works of Providence. From those images, I was able to construct a scientific understanding of the omniscience of God and, to me, the impossibility of any other form of explanation than that we live, move, and have our being in Jesus Christ, the Omega Point in, for lack of a better term, quantum space. What was most clear to me was the rhetorical question that Istvan asked, “Isn’t the journey itself the destination?” The journey and the relationship are the destination and the whole purpose of eternity. “For in Him we live, move and have our being.” You will be led to the point of making a very critical choice in The Fabric of Eternity: A Scientist's View of the Works of Providence; a choice that might affect your own eternity.

Spirituality 101 is a non-fiction book for the religious or spiritual individual who is looking to better understand the world they live in. It is a book of ‘rules’ and beliefs about life that will help you to know the science of the world and the way that science can interact (not contradict) your religious teachings. For those who are Christian, Buddhist, or really any other religion this book will help you to understand a sort of balance between your life and your religion. Dr. Ivan Figueroa Otero has laid out a ‘study guide’ for life so that everyone can know and understand the important aspects.

This book is broken down into short chapters with tables, graphs, pictures, and more which definitely makes it easy to read. The material is heavy and those methods help anyone to understand what is being said, whether it’s a comparison between classic physics and quantum physics or explaining the characteristics of co-dependent people. The cute images also help you to understand what you should be doing with the information that you read and how it’s able to impact you and your life. I have to say that many of the ideas and ‘tips’ were interesting to me and I would like to try them out for myself. The idea of studying for the test of life is an intriguing one as well and I'm sure many readers will find Spirituality 101 a good guide on that very subject. And did I mention there’s a test at the end?
