The Storm Awakened is a work of fiction in the fantasy, mythology, and adventure genres, and is the opening novel of the Chronicles of Storm series. Penned by author N.M. Thorn, the novel introduces Declan Storm, who seeks peace after a stint in prison, only to be thrust into chaos when vampires terrorize Key West. Amidst this, a priceless codex theft and a deadly monster ramp up the tension. As Declan investigates, ancient secrets and betrayals surface, forcing him to confront his dangerous past and outsmart a vengeful foe. This is an electrifying read that kept me engrossed from the first page with its rich blend of urban fantasy and Slavic mythology.

N.M. Thorn dives into the mystique, grit, and depth of these cultural and atmospheric influences, creating a richly textured world filled with dynamic characters and intense action that is realistically dark and dangerous. Declan Storm's journey is fraught with suspense thanks to the close narrative style and the emotional presentation of the character that has us rooting for him as we feel every struggle and challenge viscerally. While the intricate plot and unexpected twists really put him to the test, they also keep us guessing until the very end, thanks to some very satisfying details. Thorn's vivid descriptions and skillful pacing introduce us to a gorgeous, dangerous world and a thrilling adventure that leaves us eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series. Overall, I would highly recommend The Storm Awakened as a must-read for urban fantasy and mythology fans everywhere to enjoy.

The Butterfly Tree: An Extraordinary Saga of Seven Generations is a work of fiction in the interpersonal drama, historical fiction, and family saga genres. It is best suited to the general adult reading audience. Penned by author Woody Woodburn, this highly engaging debut novel explores the enduring power of family ties across time. The story follows multiple generations, starting from the Mayflower and traversing through significant historical events such as the Underground Railroad, the Civil War, and the Vietnam War. The novel highlights how these diverse, multiracial lineages come together to form a single, majestic family tree. Told in short, fast-paced chapters, this sweeping adventure is anchored by a kitchen table that symbolizes the interconnectedness of love and friendship among the protagonists.

Author Woody Woodburn really knows how to show personality and emotion in crafting a deeply moving and enlightening novel. The interwoven narratives across different eras offered a rich tapestry of historical and emotional depth, and the confidence and control over different elements of the storyline were impressive. The complex depiction of how disparate lineages and races come together to form a united family tree was particularly inspiring, reflecting the beauty and strength found in diversity over the years, and every generation was so clearly influenced and molded by the last. Each generation’s story of overcoming adversity and rising to help the next was given the same detailed treatment of psychology and emotion in the narrative, with brilliant speech and thought presentation that brought every individual to life in their own right. The vivid historical settings, from the Mayflower’s journey to the jungles of Vietnam, showed history in a personal and relatable way, packed with atmospheric touches and well-researched detail. Overall, The Butterfly Tree is an incredible work of heartfelt drama that I would not hesitate to recommend.

Written by Sam Torode and featuring imaginative artwork by Tina Ritchie, The Dirty Parts of the Bible is an adventure graphic novel set in the first half of the twentieth century. Since he ditched church to go fishing on Easter Sunday, Tobias Henry has seen his father, Reverend Malachi Henry, disgrace himself in the eyes of Remus' inhabitants after a drunken accident. Malachi reveals he used to be in a band and has money hidden away in Gren Rose, Texas, leading Tobias on an adventure of a lifetime. On the way while hopping trains to Gren Rose, Tobias finds himself in the company of a man named Craw, who is never short of a few nuggets of wisdom. In Glen Rose, Tobias will experience love and learn what it truly means to have faith.

Part satire and part adventure tale, The Dirty Parts of the Bible is the coming-of-age story you never knew you wanted. Fans of graphic novels will find a lot to love about this book as Sam Torode balances humor and drama with a few poignant lessons about faith and religion that feel increasingly relevant for our times. Illustrator Tina Ritchie knocks it out of the park with her beautifully drawn sketches that bring life to the characters and add visual stimuli to the story. Torode paces the story brilliantly and packs a lot into a tightly plotted narrative that keeps you engaged on every single page. I adored the dynamic between Tobias and Craw and found myself rooting for him and Sarah to end up together. Overall, this is a fantastic graphic novel I will highly recommend to young adult and adult readers alike.

In the Shadow of the Pyrenees: The Freedom Trail to Spain by Kathryn Gauci takes place in the early years of the war in the Donezan region in southwestern France. The Nazis begin their conquest of Europe and the quiet life for the rural residents of Mont-Saint-Jean, in the Ariege region bordering the Pyrenees, is about to change for the worse. A local schoolteacher, Armand Joubert, is recruited by Dr. Theo Berdu, a childhood friend, to help him. The good doctor is secretly helping Jews, communists, Allied soldiers, and escapees to flee from the Nazis or at least to hide from certain capture and death by execution on the road or in concentration camps. Gauci introduces us to life for the residents of this region of southern France bordering Spain.

Through her well-crafted characters, some based on real-life heroes, we are drawn in to care for these people. Despite the real and present danger when the Nazi and Vichy collaborators take over the small village where most of the story takes place, we want to know more about what happens to each one. In the Shadow of the Pyrenees by Kathryn Gauci is an extraordinary tale of bravery, love, and sacrifice heightened by the historical backdrop of World War II. Using first-person eyewitness accounts by some major characters to describe key events, the author keeps the reader focused on how extraordinary events affect the actions and motivations of ordinary people. You care about Justine, the daughter of Armand, who risks her life to help the many seeking escape through an arduous and dangerous route through the Pyrenees to avoid Nazi troops. The writing is crisp and clear and keeps the reader engaged. In the Shadow of the Pyrenees is historical fiction at its best.

The Wolf Esprit is a work of fiction penned by author Joseph Stone in the dark fantasy, adventure, and suspense subgenres. It is part of the Lykanos Chronicles collection but can be read as a standalone novel. The work is best suited to mature readers owing to scenes of sexual violence. This darkly enchanting journey through time and identity is set in 18th-century France. At its heart, the story follows Esprit Lenoir, a seventeen-year-old carnival performer hiding a profound secret: his queer desires that defy societal norms. His journey unfolds as he navigates the intricacies of love, magic, and self-discovery, all against the backdrop of a repressive society. The narrative takes an unexpected turn when Esprit crosses paths with the enigmatic Baron and Baroness du Roussade, who help him embrace his dormant werewolf nature. This transformation allows him to break free from the constraints of human fear and embark on a unique journey through history, driven by love and a profound longing for freedom.

Author Joseph Stone masterfully combines elements of history, the supernatural, and the complexities of identity and queer expression to craft a gorgeous tale with darkness at its edge. As Esprit's wolf awakens, readers are drawn into a captivating tale that explores the timeless quest for belonging and the transformative power of love. One of the features I especially enjoyed was how relatable the LGBTQIA+ experience still is to modern audiences and how well it draws a parallel with the supernatural elements of the tale. Overall, The Wolf Esprit is a testament to the enduring appeal of stories that transcend time and place to delve into the depths of human experience and emotion, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to readers.

Sledge vs. The Labyrinth is a work of fiction in the horror, thriller, and action subgenres. It is best suited to mature adult readers owing to its many scenes of spine-chilling horror and gory action. Penned by author Nick Horvath, readers are introduced to Einarr "Sledge" Laukkanen, a modern-day gladiator on a ruthless mission to save his former lover, Kiira, from a dark web assassin network. The narrative unfolds as Sledge engages in a blood-soaked quest, unveiling the mysterious forces orchestrating the deadly game. The tagline "No one escapes the labyrinth" sets the tone for the relentless action, reminiscent of classic Hollywood noir mixed with pulpy action films of the 1980s.

Author Nick Horvath has crafted a truly relentless and jarring narrative akin to a bone-crunching action flick but with all the smooth nuance and narrative intelligence of a great noir masterpiece. Sledge emerges as the ultimate anti-hero, a throwback to gritty adventures that leave an impact but with a sharp modern attitude that readers will immediately get on board with. The novel delivers on its promise of being a tour de force of escapism, with every page resonating with bone-crushing intensity and the gory scenes offering a visceral, atmospheric reading experience. Horvath's storytelling, with dynamic dialogue reminiscent of classic action genres, offers a refreshing and unapologetic journey into the heart of darkness that you can’t stop reading once the action cranks up. Overall, if you crave action-packed narratives with a relentless protagonist, Sledge vs. The Labyrinth is a must-read for your horror noir pile that you’ll want to revisit again and again.

Hilarious conversations and action scenes are foremost in The Gullwing Colony by Antonio Simon, Jr. Marco's job as a messenger is not easy for many reasons. Still, the main reasons are that he is one of four humans on a dragon island and that the dragons hate humans. He misses his land fondly and wishes to return; however, the only person who can pay for his way back is the one person who wishes to spend her entire life with him - Princess Dria. Although he has strong feelings for the princess, he doesn't think it's enough to hold him to Itudaeia, the Dragon Island. On one of his messenger routes, when he discovers a group of human colonists, his loyalty to the princess and Itudaeia forces him to prioritize helping the dragons first. This task becomes all the more difficult since humans have the backup of advanced firearms while the dragons must rely on their tactics and strategy.

Since The Gullwing Colony is book 2 in the Gullwing Odyssey series, a few basic questions are bound to occur to a reader; nevertheless, these do not take away from the overall pleasure of reading this story. Hysterical conversations stemming from a play on words or nonsensical battle rules ensured the humor quotient remained constant throughout the read. Antonio Simon, Jr. has weaved meaningful subjects, such as progress, equality, and love, into the plot without making the story political or serious. As a reader who was looking to read a combination of humor and fantasy, I am highly impressed. I recommend The Gullwing Colony by Antonio Simon, Jr. to action, humor, and fantasy lovers.

Claire and Wally have been married for twenty-five years and have two grown-up sons. It's time for them to retire, at least for Claire, a skilled massage therapist who gets tired after the sessions with her clients. Also, Claire is an energy healer and can connect with spirits and animals. Wally is a talented but unsuccessful writer stuck in a job he doesn't like. He finds an escape in golf and wants to write a great novel. But Claire thinks that enough is enough, and they fight. The next day, Wally leaves Claire and finds refuge at his childhood friend's house. Claire tries to multitask between her business and her volunteer job at a local dog shelter, whereas her pushy friend, Roz, has her own ideas on how to improve Claire's life. Wally finds an unexpected muse to overcome his writer's block. The Funny Moon by Chris Lincoln is for mature fans of humor, family drama, and inspirational fiction.

In Chris Lincoln's entertaining The Funny Moon, both spouses see themselves as victims of the circumstances that made their marriage unsatisfying. The author studies their development, which gets bumpy at times. The twists in the plot are humorous and bring the main characters closer to us. Claire gets into multiple awkward situations with her new admirer, Max, and Wally tries the tricky business of collecting bills. Claire's late grandmother, Mama Betty, or her spirit, is an intriguing secondary character who adds zest to the narrative. Chris shows us that life can be bright and promising in our fifties and that we should always pursue personal growth. The narrative is quick-paced and very engaging. Chris keeps us in suspense regarding the outcome until the last chapter. I highly recommend this compelling and motivational story to those standing at a crossroads.
