The Princess, the Knight, and the Lost God is a children's fantasy novel by Victoria Winifred. On the day of her twelfth birthday, Princess Kassie is excited to go through her rites of passage for Goddesshood, just like her parents Mars and Caïssa, the gods of war and chess, respectively. But when Kassie's best friend and son of the gods of sports and victory goes missing, fingers are pointed at the kingdom of Chess Mountain. Kassie's parents send her through a portal to Earth to hide until the situation is solved. Stuck in an unfamiliar world with the knight Maurice and a copy of Notations of Passage, Kassie must now navigate school, teachers, friends, and bullies while keeping under the radar of the fallen Originals. In between, she will master the game she was born to play.

The Princess, the Knight, and the Lost God will entertain chess and fantasy fans alike while nurturing a love of chess among those who have never played it. Author Victoria Winifred tells a captivating fantasy adventure tale revolving around the game of chess featuring princesses, gods, and dragons that captures and holds your attention from the first page until the last. Imaginative and infused with action, humor, and mystery, the plot breezes past without a single hitch as you're turning the pages and wondering what will happen next. Kassie is a precocious child and someone you will find easy to relate to. Her kind and empathic nature make her riveting to read. This is a book that kids of all ages can enjoy. Highly recommended.

In The School of Failure: A Story About Success by Rosie J. Pova, some of the fairy-tale characters in this account fail to measure up to expectations during auditions. Those that were not successful are taken to the School of Failure. While trying to figure out what they enjoy doing, they discover that they aren’t too good at some of the things they like. Someone writes a haiku that doesn’t quite fit into a magazine, and another makes cakes that turn out flat. With the Grand Ball coming up soon, will the students of the School of Failure figure out what they enjoy doing most, or will the entire event become a disaster?

The School Of Failure by Rosie J. Pova is a children’s fairy-tale that features characters like Zinderella, the Non-Evil Queen, and Wolfred, a wolf who doesn’t like to frighten anyone. I loved how the Headmaster of the School Of Failure encourages the students to explore their talents and practice the things they enjoy, even if they may not be successful at first. The illustrations by Monika Filipina are colorful and bright and will keep kids entertained as they follow the narrative. I love the messages about practicing, studying, and learning new skills woven throughout. I recommend this book to young children who love adventurous fairy-tales with an educational spin thrown in. The lesson about the significance of failure while cultivating new abilities is something any child can benefit from.

Linus the Troll is written by Rosie Talley. It is the story of a young troll, Linus, who is a study in contrasts. The most outstanding aspect of the story is the way that Linus’s physical features are contrasted with his personality. Readers soon discover that he’s not at all what they would expect based on his appearance. He has fangs and long green teeth. His skin is scaly and cold. But he is so much more than all of these features. The color of his eyes would be considered off-putting, but they are, by turns, full of laughter and caring and warmth. The author, Rosie Talley, has taken advantage of the opportunity to give us a character like this to illustrate how important it is to look past the surface and beyond appearance to see the true person behind the physical attributes. How easy it would be to hurt the feelings of someone like Linus were he judged only on the way he looks.

I personally think Linus would make a beautiful, comforting, and protective stuffed animal that children could snuggle with or carry around everywhere. His favorite music is played on an instrument that totally surprises the reader, as does one of his favorite hobbies. The end of the book also includes some fun activities. My compliments to the artist, Anna Benczedi. I liked Linus from the very first image of him. His coloring of green and purple and those wonderful peach-colored ears all work together to make him delightful looking and huggable. I encourage you to meet him and see how irresistible he is. Thank you, Rosie, for your story.

Pebbles and the Biggest Number by Joey Benun is a children’s book full of fun facts and new vocabulary to enjoy. Pebbles, the butterfly, is curious to learn about the biggest number in existence apart from the usual small numbers such as tens, hundreds, and thousands he knows. He sets off on a quest to find out what that number is from his friends, such as Mr. Camel, Ms. Eel, Mr. Dog, and Ms. Butterfly. On his way, each subsequent friend educates him on a new and even bigger number than the previous friend, as they equate the number from something in their surroundings, such as Mr. Frog saying the biggest number that he knows is three trillion since that is the number of trees growing on earth.

Joey Benun has used brightly colored illustrations that capture children’s attention and attract their curiosity to discover his message. The images also summarize this book’s message in a graphical manner, which children can easily recall. There is a glossary of words with definitions of terms learned from each friend Pebbles visits. The words include atom, hurricane, avalanche, and septillion, which children of younger ages may not be familiar with. These words help build the child’s vocabulary in speech and writing to communicate effectively. Benun has included fun facts about the environment children will enjoy learning on each page. I recommend Pebbles and the Biggest Number to young readers as it will give them incredible information about their surroundings.

Crow From the Shadow by Olaolu Ogunyemi is a must-read picture book for every child. It contains valuable and inspiring life lessons and will empower children to believe in themselves, identify, and overcome their negative thoughts. It tells the story of Crow, a bright bird whose life is controlled by The Shadow. Crow doesn't like that The Shadow tells him who to be and what to do, but he can't do anything about it. Every time Crow wants to do something, The Shadow stops him. Unfortunately, Crow doesn't dare to stand up to him, so he keeps dreaming of the life he could have. Will Crow stop listening to The Shadow and regain control over his fate?

I adored this well-illustrated story with an important and influential message. I firmly believe that many children will resonate with Crow's struggles. What children tell themselves impacts their self-confidence. Their inner voice matters as it's one of the most significant influences that shape their journeys. Crow From the Shadow by Olaolu Ogunyemi introduces children to their negative thinking and inner critic. It encourages them to overcome self-doubt, become all they can be, and determine their future. It's a perfect addition to every home and school. It can help parents, teachers, and mentors to start conversations with children, at home and in the classroom, about self-doubt and how to deal with it. This easy-to-read story will make a huge difference in the hearts and minds of children who are afraid to follow their dreams.

Doppy Saves the Bees: An Educational, Rhyming Picture Book About Bee Conservation for Kids by H.R. Manske addresses the critical issue of nature conservation in a style that is educational and downright precious. Doppy, an adorable “Dop,” meets Honey the Bee when she swoops into his garden. Honey explains that bees like herself are disappearing, and while this could be a big problem, there is a solution. Doppy flies away with his new bee friend to learn some easy, safe ways to help create a world that provides what bees need to keep pollinating. Told in rhyme, filled with delightful illustrations, and wrapped up with scientific facts about bees, this is a fantastic picture book for a budding generation of bee protectors.

I loved the creativity in Doppy Saves the Bees. Art-wise, Doppy is a friendly and cute character with a fun shape and style that I have not seen before. H.R. Manske does a wonderful job of acknowledging that bees can be intimidating while also helping the reader embrace them as friends and important members of our ecosystem. The science highlighted by the book - what bees do for plants and how we can provide for them - is comprehensible for young readers, but is also engaging and informative for grown-ups who hope to guide their little ones in practicing bee care. This book is ideal for beginning readers (5 to 7 years old) looking for a book to enjoy on their own, but adults will also not be able to resist falling in love with Doppy and Honey.

We can’t all be good at everything and we can’t expect to love doing everything. That’s a very difficult lesson for everyone to learn, especially Petunia. She enjoys participating in activities at school, but the problem is: Petunia’s a unicorn. Her horn pierces the soccer ball and when she’s jumping on the trampoline, her horn gets stuck in the ceiling, with Petunia dangling below. Frustrated, she asks Auntie Sprinkles for advice. She’s surprised when Auntie suggests she takes up ballet and starts dancing around the house to demonstrate her agility and grace. Petunia goes along, but she’s not very good – at first. Then she works hard between classes and starts to improve. The only problem is Madison. She’s the best and she lets everyone know it. So, when auditions for the lead in the upcoming performance approach, Madison convinces everyone she’ll get the lead. Should Petunia try out anyway? She had improved, but has she improved enough to outshine the obvious star dancer? Sometimes we just need a little bit of encouragement, a whole lot of hard work, and a lot of faith in ourselves to prove to the world (and to prove to ourselves) that we’re always good enough!

R.L. Ullman’s picture book story, Petunia the Unicorn’s Magically Marvelous Ballet, is another exciting book in the Petunia Cupcake Fluffybottom series. Petunia has a lot of lessons to learn and she’s about to find her niche in a very difficult world where appearances matter and pride can easily become one’s downfall. The plot follows Petunia’s journey to discover her talents and the lessons she learns along the way. The language is simple and there’s lots of dialogue to help the story move forward with ease. The illustrations, as always, are bright, bold, and spectacular, just like the main character, Petunia. The entire story is magical and full of charm. And you can’t have a spectacular Petunia adventure without a little bit of humor and a little bit of unicorn magic. It’s not always about winning, but rather about being the best you can be, being proud of your own accomplishments, and being a good friend at all times, even to those who don’t always demonstrate friendly attitudes. Absolutely beautiful!

Nervous Nolan Bison Goes Poopy on the Potty is an encouraging rhyming story. Kevin Christmann did a wonderful job of crafting this book for youngsters who may have trouble pooping on the potty. The story is engaging, educational, and entertaining. It's about Nolan, a tiny bison who is too nervous and scared to go poopy on the potty. Nolan loves diapers because they feel safe, but now that he has to poop, he wishes he had the courage to try the potty. Luckily, his mother offers him some encouraging words, and then his friend, Nina (a deer), tells him she doesn't wear diapers anymore. Their words motivate Nolan to be brave and overcome his fear. Nolan's accomplishment calls for a big celebration.

Nervous Nolan Bison Goes Poopy on the Potty is a great book encouraging little ones to try the potty. It shows children that being nervous is okay when going on the potty. It will convince them that pooping on the toilet is not scary as they may think it is, and they can try the potty at their own pace. Kevin Christmann's book contains vibrant, action-packed illustrations featuring activities that perfectly mix fun and learning. This rhyming story will capture any toddler's attention, especially those who love animals. It's a must-have for parents or grandparents having a bit of a struggle with potty training. It shows how to offer the gentle support and encouragement a toddler may need during potty training.
