Can a baseball team depend on winning with one of their players having extremely stinky feet? This is what Little League Baseball team The Mighty Hitters think about Pete McGee's extra smelly feet and his lucky stinky socks. Just maybe this has been their good luck sock charm that brought them to the final championship game of the season. The game is a tight one and The Mighty Hitters are down 2-0 in the top of the ninth. Two runs score and it's up to Stinky Feet Pete to score the winning run. Can The Mighty Hitters depend on Pete's stinky socks or will the opponent team slide right through all of the stink and win the championship? You will find the answer and fun and excitement in author Cindy Lazann Shirley's Stinky Feet Pete and the Mighty Hitters.

I am a huge baseball fan so this was a fun and entertaining book for me to read and I can say I  thoroughly enjoyed it. Cindy Lazann Shirley does an amazing job with building up the excitement in the fans and players for the big game, as well as making sure those stinky sock feet of Pete's were well known. And I love the way illustrator Cleoward Sy captures the excitement on the faces of the characters. The details of the pictures and the vivid colors all make for an awesome way to capture the story in pictures for smaller children. Both Sy and Shirley work together so very well to create an amazing story. Anyone loving a good sports story will love Stinky Feet Pete and the Mighty Hitters.

Kobee Manatee and his friends, Tess and Pablo, are off on another underwater adventure in Kobee Manatee: Climate Change and The Great Blue Hole Hazard. Kobee and his friends set off from Grand Cayman for their 500-mile journey to his cousin’s cafe in Belize. They’ve been invited to help clean up some plastic litter and to see The Great Blue Hole, part of the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System. On the way they see a turtle trapped in some plastic, which they help remove. Tameeka joins them on their trek to Belize. They discuss the things they see on the way from a Portuguese Man-of-War to coral bleaching. There is a scary moment as they arrive at The Great Blue Hole but Tameeka saves the day. They end their journey at the Seagrass Café, picking up litter and enjoying a delicious meal.

Kobee Manatee: Climate Change and The Great Blue Hole Hazard is an informative and exciting aquatic tale. Author Robert Scott Thayer has included Kobee’s Fun Facts on every page, and they are full of information. They include information on organizations that support oceans and ways that kids can encourage their families and friends to reduce plastic pollution. Lauren Gallegos has created a colorful ocean world with her illustrations. I especially love Tess's beautiful vivid mane! Robert Scott Thayer presents an important environmental message in an engaging story with wonderful characters. Anyone who loves the ocean and wants to help save it should read Kobee Manatee: Climate Change and The Great Blue Hole Hazard. I’m looking forward to the next Kobee Manatee adventure.

The Secret of the Magic eyePad by Marsha Tufft is a beautifully written story for fourth to sixth graders, featuring an interesting female protagonist: Putney Hicks. She is an imaginative twelve-year-old girl with a magic eyePad, an aspiring artist who is worried sick over her move to an experimental STEM school. Apart from other worries, there is Sue Wexford, the girl who taunts her, and this time around, she might end up in a far worse situation with her. But can Sam, her magic mentor, be of any help? There is a lot of fun in this book. The fact that the protagonist has to move to a new town is already a huge challenge for a youngster like Putney. This means she has to make new friends and start again all over, and there are things to get scared about with the unfamiliar terrain.

Marsha Tufft does an incredible job of writing about science, curiosity, and self-discovery. Creating Sam, the friend and mentor who appears as a hologram, brings some magic into the story and expands the world of the protagonist. I loved the way they get to know each other. There is something magical in this book and readers will enjoy that part of the story. But the part about product design is written in a fun way and packed with information and insight that will fuel the problem-solving skills of young readers and ignite their imaginations. The Secret of the Magic eyePad is written in the first-person narrative and it is a humorous voice that reflects the thoughts and feelings of a young character. It is filled with fun activities, interesting characters, and lessons on solving problems. It is as realistic as it is magical.

Two young princesses, Rosalie and Scarlet, are awakened one night when a thief breaks in and steals the King’s scepter! These two girls find their courage when they see a clue pointing them in the direction the thief may have gone. Genies and mermaids, wizards, and unicorns are just a few of the helpful beings that Rosalie and Scarlet encounter on their quest. Despite the mystical beings offering help to the two young princesses, they always seem to be one step behind the thief. Will princesses Rosalie and Scarlet be able to get the scepter back to its rightful owner? The Search for the Scepter by Julie Dinges is an enchanting tale that will bring a bit of magic into your home.

As a frequent reader of children’s literature, I am always pleased to see rhyme so excellently executed. Author Julie Dinges has created a beautiful story about two young princesses, Rosalie and Scarlet, who set out to do the right thing, even though it’s a little scary. Children’s books often incorporate elements of magic and wonder, but few do so as beautifully as The Search for the Scepter. Rosalie and Scarlet encounter many mystical beings during their search for the elusive thief, all of which are wonderfully designed and uniquely imaginative. The illustrations, done by Nazar Horokhivskyi, colorfully bring the story to life. Julie Dinges has created a one of a kind work in The Search for the Scepter, and I look forward to seeing if Rosalie and Scarlet find themselves in more adventures in future books. Well done!

Gramps & Me in the Galaxy by Anna Lamson is a colorful and whimsical book for children. The story is told by a little boy and the adventure he solved with Gramps. While traveling the galaxy, the King of Mars asks for their help. A hideous monster from Neptune is making its way toward Mars and from there the whole galaxy. As they travel to Neptune, they meet many curious creatures that plant seeds of fright in the grandson’s mind. Gramps understands the active thoughts of children and the doubts they have of the unknown. The young grandson is in charge of Gramps’ briefcase that holds mysterious supplies. Do they have what they need to defeat this dreadful monster?

Anna Lamson writes in a poetic rhythm that will enthrall parents and children alike. Gramps & Me in the Galaxy will have children mesmerized with the creative pictures and funny situations in which the grandfather and grandson find themselves. The variety of creatures ignites an inventive imagination. This is a book that children will request continually and would make a splendid gift to youngsters. Other than the flow of the words, my favorite part was the Kung Fu fighting cat. It made me laugh every time I came to that part. This book is an excellent start to more adventures with Gramps. Every good children’s book is characterized by the illustrator’s creativity and technique. David Stedmond turned Gramps & Me in the Galaxy into a distinguished work that emphasized the skill of the author by blending the pictures with the characters.

The One Great Gnome is a children’s book written by Jeff Dinardo and illustrated by Jhon Ortiz. The story starts with an 11-year-old girl from bustling Manhattan, New York City, called Sarah. Sarah recently moved to a small town known as Hadley in Connecticut. She was not keen on the move, stepping outside her own comfort zone. However, her efforts to avoid the major move were all for naught, and she found herself in an old farmhouse. Little did anyone know, deep under the grounds of Hadley was a township of gnomes. Join Sarah on an adventure of a lifetime when she befriends a garden gnome and fights off evil trolls to keep her gnome friends safe. It will definitely be a journey that you will never forget!

Jeff Dinardo has outdone himself with The One Great Gnome, which is easily one of the most memorable storybooks out of the vast selection within the children’s fiction genre. Jeff’s writing is very descriptive, which captivated and transported me instantly into Sarah’s world along with the exciting adventures with the gnomes! I truly enjoyed the twists and turns of Sarah’s journey in saving her friends. The One Great Gnome also teaches the important lesson of adapting to changes and new environments, as reflected in Sarah’s own situation. Sarah is a prime example to young readers that we should always be open-minded to new experiences within our lives, leave our comfort zones, try out new things, and meet new friends.

Little Lamb would play all day if he had his way, building towers, jumping, wagon rides, and playground slides. Little Lamb loved to win and he could beat every animal. Since he loved to win, the animals let him cheat. He played with his Dad one day and his Dad played it straight. Little Lamb was not happy. He threw a fit and said he was going to quit playing because it was not fair. His Dad advised him that it was the way he responded after a loss that mattered the most instead of the scoreboard's final score. Lambie knew he had to change his attitude and he decided to work harder. He practiced and practiced and his Mom's words kept him going as she told him he would never get there if he decided to quit. Will all the practice enable him to win the game?

The Gritty Little Lamb by Dan Allbaugh is an uplifting story that will encourage young readers to believe in themselves and not to quit. The story is all about determination, perseverance, practice, and having the right attitude. With the help of rhymes and lively illustrations, the author conveys this important message to readers. Anil Yap's illustrations are eye-catching and not only give the characters each a personality but also make the story appealing to youngsters. Lambie's character is real and relatable to many readers out there and is a good way to teach them not to quit. It is a perfect story for tutors and parents to use for storytelling and read-aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries to encourage children to believe in themselves and pursue their passion.

Everyone wants to fit in. We have the false impression that if we look like everyone else, we’ll be equal and be part of the ‘in’ crowd. Imagine being a duckling with a different – and I mean very different – beak. Ack wasn’t dubbed his name without a reason. He has a beak that looks like the bell of a trumpet and even sounds like one when he tries to quack with the others. As you can probably guess, Ack is teased mercilessly and he’s embarrassed by his looks and his quack. When he sees a young boy also crying because of something different in his appearance, Ack starts to believe that maybe he’s not the only one who feels left out. It takes more than a loving mother’s kind words to encourage Ack, and probably the boy, too. When the annual Nantucket Duckling Parade approaches, Ack hides behind a fire hydrant to avoid being noticed and, potentially, laughed at. What happens next makes him realize that it’s okay to be different and sometimes it can be beneficial, just as long as we believe in ourselves.

A.K. Spurway’s picture book story, Ack! The Nantucket Duckling, is a sweet, charming story, addressing the importance of accepting ourselves and others for all of our differences. After all, differences are a part of life, and we need to embrace what gifts we are given and use them to the best of our ability. The plot follows young Ack’s grief over being different, his embarrassment, and finally, his reconciliation with what he sees as a deformity. The story is told in simple language so a young reader can follow along, and the illustrations are bright and colorful and help carry the story forward. The story is based on an actual annual event on Nantucket Island and some of the histories behind this event and the author’s interest are included at the end. Beautifully told and illustrated.

What do hungry foxes like? Chickens! In Suzanne Alexander’s book The Tip of the Tale, we meet a hungry fox who is searching for a delicious chicken meal. He spies a farm and heads there, only to see no chickens but a cat instead. When he asks that cat if there are any chickens, the cat says no and sends him on to the next farm. The story is repeated at each farm he visits until, finally giving up on finding chickens, he settles for some milk, only to have it splashed all over him. Even though the fox sees no chickens, eagle-eyed readers are sure to spot some chicks hiding in unusual places.

The Tip of the Tale has all the elements needed to make it a great book for sharing in storytime. The story is fun and has a repeating element that kids love. Ashley Teets's illustrations are expressive and full of humor. Kids will enjoy spotting the chickens that the fox doesn’t see, some hiding in plain sight. Many times after sharing a book about animals in storytime, I have had kids ask me for more information about those animals. I’m so glad that Alexander has included facts about red foxes at the end of her story. Suzanne Alexander clearly knows how to craft a story for young kids. The Tip of the Tale is simply a great story and one that will be asked for again and again.

“What happens when the bully becomes the victim?” The Adventures of Bentley Hippo: Inspiring Children to be Kind is an animal storybook for children by Argyro Graphy. Bentley Hippo and his friends are excited that they’re going on a school trip to the Annual Fair. Everyone enjoyed the bus driver’s singing, except Toby the Elephant. Bentley and Jaxon were upset to see his sad face when other kids, including Marty the lion, teased him about his large size. As soon as they arrived at the fair, a kid grabbed Toby’s glasses and ran away. Poor Toby couldn’t see clearly without his glasses. Bentley told their teacher who promised to do something about the bullying. He and Jaxon wanted Toby to be happy so they went on the fun rides. While walking, they heard someone calling for help and saw Marty hiding behind a tree while kids were bullying him. Jaxon and Bentley decided to come to his rescue, but Toby was still angry with Marty. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to help Marty at all.

The Adventures of Bentley Hippo: Inspiring Children to be Kind by Argyro Graphy is the second of five books in the Inspiring Children Collection. Bullying affects children in many ways and it’s certainly not an issue that should be treated lightly. This storybook addresses the topic very nicely with lovable characters and realistic scenarios. Children will learn about the signs and types of bullying. Knowing how to defend themselves by standing up to mean persons is very important too. The artwork in this animal storybook is appealing. There are many lessons about being kind to others. Other books in this lovely theme-based educational collection inspire children to share and never give up. Parents and teachers can add this collection to their children’s reading list.
