The Message for the Last Days
Biblical and Historical Understanding of End Times

Christian - Non-Fiction

There is a lot of end time literature on the market and it is interesting to notice the inconsistencies in the interpretations of the biblical message of the revelation. In The Message for the Last Days: Biblical and Historical Understanding of End Times by KJ Soze, readers are offered a fresh perspective on how to understand the message of the end times presented in the book of Revelation. The author takes readers through the context of the covenant and explores God's message of the final days in a way that explains the final moments.
In the beginning, the author gives a wonderful explanation, uncovering the missing link between the interpretations offered by other authors and the deeper meaning of the message. “The covenants provide crucial background information for the events that will happen in the future. We also need to understand the physical realm on earth compared to the heavenly realm in order to find the link between these two realms with spirit realm activities bridging them in Revelation.” The author cautions that it is essentially necessary to have an initial placement of the end time prophecies within a realm and to determine the context of the same message in other passages.
The Message for the Last Days: Biblical and Historical Understanding of End Times examines the different messages from Christian culture about end times and shows the errors in these messages while proposing a method that allows readers to place the prophecies in the right context. I found this book to be both objective and enlightening, well written in a language that is easy to understand and fluid. The author writes with the authority of an expert in the field.

Out of the Wild

Christian - Non-Fiction

Out of the Wild: 7 Years in the New Zealand Wilderness is exactly what the title promises. It is Charlie Paterson’s vivid record of his struggle against everything – poverty, bureaucracy, loneliness, and ill-health – that undermined the roots of his dream to survive as our ancestors must have done. The “wilderness” is within the vast Fiordland National Park and his chosen location is very remote. Out of the Wild comprises the history of this amazing part of New Zealand, with illustrations and maps, but most of all it's a unique story of one man’s determination to survive and his growing faith in God. Nobody who reads it will be left unmoved, or under any illusion that living without everything we take for granted – supermarkets, freezers, easy communication – is “a walk in the park”.
Reading Out of the Wild, I grew to love and hate The Devil’s Trail and its surroundings in equal proportions. Anti-blood-sports, I constantly reminded myself that this was hunting for meat to eat as wild fruits are gathered. The sheer beauty of the wilderness, and it is vividly described, took my breath away. Loneliness was a huge problem for the wannabe hermit, but not totally unrelieved; there was Jane! Charlie Paterson’s views on women, sex, and morality are intriguing. His advice to his daughter, born in later years, about choosing a husband is rock solid, but he confirms his sense of humour with “it helps if he’s rich”. Join Charlie Paterson in his wilderness years. Out of the Wild is a book to treasure and reread.

Forty-year-old Sherri wants to find a perfect match but since she hasn’t dated in a long time, she decides it is best to contact a not so perfect match to test her skills and get back in the race. Her choice is Greg, a man who has not been in the dating game for several years and has the same idea as Sherri. When the two meet, they find they share a lot in common. They decide that they can help each other and form Operation Soulmate. Sherri advises Greg on what he needs to improve to find the perfect girl and Greg will do the same for her. They spend several months together and form a very close relationship; always being there for each other. Greg finds a beautiful woman on the website and immediately Sherri is kind of jealous but still sticks to the pact. She also finds someone who may turn out to be her dream mate. They soon find themselves in situations that are funny, touching and eye-opening.
Can You Lose the Unibrow? by Sally Burbank is an easy to read, entertaining story of two people, Sherri and Greg, who are looking for love through an online dating website. I loved Can You Lose the Unibrow? a lot. There were times when I heard my mother’s voice giving me the same advice; other times I heard myself sharing these thoughts with my own daughter. It was impossible not to like Sherri and be there to root her on. Greg was the steady stand-by friend every girl and/or woman longs to have on her side. You will have to read Can You Lose the Unibrow? yourself to enjoy all of the action. This romance read is a five star plus hit!

Christian - Romance - General

Love Is the Answer, God Is the Cure: A True Story of Abuse, Betrayal and Unconditional Love by Aimee Cabo Nikolov is the mesmerizing and riveting story of the author who, as a young girl, stood up against sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, together with her sisters. Aimee had been deeply abused and when she decided to go to the authorities, it is a decision that put the secrets of her family in the public spotlight. Follow her story as she finds true love and healing.
This memoir is a dramatic tale of courage and inspiration to those women who have suffered the pain of sexual abuse in silence. It communicates the message that victims can stand up against those who have hurt them. The narrative is moving, with disturbing scenes so poignantly captured that they make the reader's heart break. For instance, after she has been abused, her mother finds her crying in the bathroom. Here is how she describes the incident: ‘“Why are you crying when you go to the bathroom?” she asked, in a clinical voice. She was trying to figure out if I was sick. Little did she know that she was looking for sickness in the wrong person.”
Aimee Cabo Nikolov's writing is fluid and the author develops themes of love, family, relationship with God, and healing in a brilliant manner. Love Is the Answer, God Is the Cure: A True Story of Abuse, Betrayal and Unconditional Love is a deeply moving, inspiring story, told with unusual candor.

Christian - Romance - General

Two Face the World: Marry in Haste... by Sarah Stuart is a suspenseful romance with strong psychological hints, a second entry in a gripping romance series. I first read Three Against the World and was literally hypnotized by the author’s exploration of the emotional depth of the characters, but in this new novel, she takes the stakes higher. Richard and Maria are a new couple and while they have every reason to be happy, both are haunted by their past, both caught in a powerful, disturbing dilemma — face the truth of their past and risk their marriage or keep their secrets from each other and live in constant fear. But when their lives and property are attacked, they make the decision to uncover the person behind the attacks.
Sarah Stuart spins a tale that will resonate with readers. The characters are genuinely flawed and their humanity is deftly handled. The author has the gift of infusing the narrative with realism, making readers feel as though they are confronted with a story that unfolds before their gaze. The narrative starts with a powerful premise and deals with a problem that readers encounter in real life. The question that begs for an answer is: What do we do with our past when we get married? The strong narrative voice combines with the crisp prose to create a reading experience that is enjoyable. The prose is atmospheric, the plot intriguing and the characters skillfully developed with psychological and emotional depth. Apart from her gift of storytelling, Sarah Stuart creates the kind of conflict that defines the dynamics of the story and keeps the reader utterly engaged. Two Face the World: Marry in Haste... is another excellent read for fans of contemporary romance.

Tiny Tim and The Ghost of Ebenezer Scrooge
The Sequel to A Christmas Carol

Christian - Romance - Historical

It’s been fourteen years since Ebenezer Scrooge was visited by the three ghosts of Christmas. He was forever a changed man after those epic visits, changed for the better. He and Tiny Tim became steadfast friends, Scrooge being like a second father to the young boy. Now, all grown up, Tim is no longer lame and he works at the same desk his father once occupied; his father is now a full partner with Scrooge’s nephew taking the old blighter’s former office. You see, Scrooge has just died. But he’s not done influencing the land of the living. He has an important message to share with Tim, a message that Scrooge had to learn from the three ghosts that visited him fourteen years ago.
Norman Whaler’s novella, Tiny Tim and the Ghost of Ebenezer Scrooge: The Sequel to A Christmas Carol, is very cleverly done. Written in the classic style of Charles Dickens, the reader steps back in time to the original story of Scrooge and his ghosts. Making Tim, now a young man, into the main character, the author has woven a similar tale of disappointment, sorrow and mounting anger that only a ghost from the past can address and hopefully correct. Scrooge’s message to Tim is similar to the message he received from his ghosts: “Real faith isn’t about the belief that He will fix everything when things go wrong because you have been a good person. ... Our faith is especially tested at those times that are the bleakest in our lives and nothing seems to make sense. But in this, we are not without choices, and we are not alone.” Like Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Norman Whaler’s sequel has a profound message to share and, like Dickens, this author uses compelling narrative and great attention to detail to make this message clear. A wonderful sequel.

The Touch
A Supernatural Story - Part I

Christian - Thriller

The Touch: A Supernatural Story - Part I is a work of complex and contemporary fantasy fiction penned by author Robert Flynn III, which takes on the themes of angels and demons alongside good and evil. Written in the style of many modern fantasy thrillers that consider the nature of man and the powers of the supernatural, our hero here is Gabriel, a supposedly autistic boy who hears a powerful voice in his head. The ‘touch’ of the title comes when Gabriel discovers he can transfer power to others, and slowly he comes to bond with Joshua Fellows, who also lives at this orphanage. The two boys begin a journey to bring good to the world, but the presence of the voice is a mystery that they might turn out unwilling to solve.
Author Robert Flynn III writes beautifully and atmospherically to bring each scene of this work to life, from Gabriel’s early life and visitations of the voice right into the work that he and Joshua try to bring to the world. There is an expansive cast of characters to experience as the novel moves forward, and several plot strands which are reeled out but not fully reeled back in. Since this is only Part I of the tale, an incomplete plot suggests that those threads will return in a later book. These will hopefully encompass a fascinating overall thread of the pull of the supernatural and the very nature of good and evil. I would definitely recommend The Touch with the hope that there is more beautiful writing and a concrete plot resolution to come in future.

The Quest to Overthrow Heaven
Bolko Zimmer

Christian - Thriller

Based on the popular Christian myth of the fallen angels, The Quest to Overthrow Heaven by Bolko Zimmer is an inspirational Christian story that transports readers to the very beginning of time. The world is inhabited by heavenly beings — seraphim, cherubim, and a multitude of angels. Compelled by an insatiable quest for power and vanity, the cherub prince, Lucifer, conspires with a third of the angels to overthrow the Supreme Spirit. These fallen angels will be a source of terror and unimaginable evil that will befall humankind. When Michael and many other angels are sent to watch over humanity, they are met with war from the prince of darkness and many of them die because they were never armed in the first place. Follow Michael and the few survivors as they escape, aided by the Supreme Spirit, and witness the final battle to determine the rightful ruler of heaven.
Bolko Zimmer succeeds in giving life to the myth that has been at the heart of Christian teachings, exploring the primordial battle between good and evil with brilliance and a lot of creativity and genius. The spiritual atmosphere of the novel is strong and readers are, indeed, transported to a spiritual realm to witness the birth of evil and the triumph of good. The writing in The Quest to Overthrow Heaven is beautiful and loaded with vivid descriptions. The exquisite character of the setting, the gorgeous writing, the three-dimensional nature of the characters, and the phenomenal conflict are elements of Bolko Zimmer’s book that I enjoyed. The themes of creation, loyalty, the battle between good versus evil, and power are beautifully explored in this narrative. The story also has powerful lessons for readers and one of the central lessons is that truth and good always triumph over evil.

Fiction - Action

In The Apotheosis by Darrell Lee, when Dr. John Numen’s father dies suddenly he inherits a major stake in a successful pharmaceutical company. Using the company as a cover, John Numen begins his own medical research which could change human life as we know it. As the decades pass, John discovers the meaning of abandonment by those close to him but also true unconditional love. His research and his plan to boost his wealth even further takes him down a morally disturbing path. Following a series of devastating events, he finds himself on the run from the FBI. There is now no turning back and John is determined to see his experiment through, no matter who has to suffer, in the name of progress. Follow John through many decades and continents as he tries to master his life’s work and get his retribution before the FBI can stop him.
This science fiction thriller will hook you from the first page. The suspense throughout this fast-paced plot will always keep you in anticipation. The medical jargon is just enough to understand and enjoy the story but it is clearly very well researched. John Numen is a disturbed character who believes his macabre work is for the benefit of mankind. Whether he is a villain or a misunderstood hero will be for the reader's belief system to decide. The tangled web of deceit and corruption in the story is woven throughout with nail-biting conflict. Not often does a novel make you question your own values but this one did mine. Each of the characters was well created and three-dimensional, especially Irina, a strong-minded fighter with a fierce attitude towards the cold-blooded and callous Roman. The hunt by the FBI at the end had me on the edge of my seat, followed by an excellent twist that was absolutely masterful.

The Lost Ones

Fiction - Adventure

The Lost Ones is a work of thriller fiction penned by author Carl Lakeland. Taking adventure fiction into a thrilling supernatural new setting, dystopia looms on planet Earth after the devastation of the Fall Wars. Richard Gabriel is our hero, a man stranded with his family on the USS John Steinbeck and desperate to escape the South Pole before they all freeze to death in the darkness. Richard’s plan is to head for Australia, but the post-war world he discovers reveals a terrifying new future for humanity. It’s a race to survive as these lost souls struggle to find safety and hope in the future.
I thoroughly enjoyed every page of this excellent adventure novel. Author Carl Lakeland combines believable heroics with supernatural flair and a stylish dystopian world worthy of any Mad Max or Hunger Games fan’s attention. The style is very much for adult readers, though not extreme in its graphics, and the world in which Richard and his family try to survive is realistically grim. The full gamut of human emotion runs through the novel with well paced peaks and troughs that lull readers one moment, then shock them again the next. Like the heroes themselves, you’ll hardly have a moment to breathe before the next terror is upon you, which makes for an excellent, exciting page turner from beginning to end. Overall, I would certainly recommend The Lost Ones to all dystopian thriller fans, as well as those who love disaster fiction and action novels with heartfelt characters.
