Non-Fiction - Religion/Philosophy
Love Them Back to Life by Ariane Page is interesting to say the least. A psychological and holistic look into both happiness and love, and why humans are so bad at finding peace with both, this book is a combination of science, speculation, and holistic healing practices aimed at bettering one's life, love, and ability to handle relationships.
It's hard to really classify Love Them Back to Life as a self help book, a spiritual book, or simply a book about the author, Ariane Page. It explores the historical context of what our ancestors used to do in order to understand the human brain, expressed through mythologies and stories that reflected human understanding of life and love. Taking on all branches of the health and wellness chart, from spiritual to mental to physical and more, this book tackles the issues of health and mental awareness on all sides. It's a multi-pronged "attack" on detriments to health, well-being, and happiness, and I believe that it will do a lot of good in the world to those looking to improve their lifestyles and the way that they feel in general.
Page's writing style is open and honest, but maintains clarity and personality as she digs into issues that may be challenging for some and eye-opening for others. Her tone is warm and friendly, encouraging us to embark on this healing journey with her through logical and thoughtful arguments and evidence, along with helpful advice and speculations. Overall, Love Them Back to Life should lift the spirits of many who are currently overcome by their day-to-day lives.

The Garden of Life

The Garden of Life is an inspirational non-fiction book written by Todd Michael Putnam. This self-help book is composed of dialogues between the Young Gardener and his neighbor, the Old Man. The two of them discuss their opposing viewpoints on topics such as weeding their gardens, criticizing their neighbors' gardening efforts, dealing with losing their plants in a major storm and picking up the pieces afterward among other topics. Each is a metaphor for life and is followed by Gardening Tips and a focus question for thought. While The Garden of Life is an inspirational book, the author does not espouse any one religious belief system, and the parables contained within are accessible to all.
Todd Michael Putnam's motivational self-help book, The Garden of Life, is a marvelous little handbook on the care and feeding of your inner being. The Young Gardener is never judgmental or harsh when dealing with the Old Man, and his responses are inspirational indeed. From the very first parable on weeding one's Garden of Life, I found myself challenged and intrigued. The Young Gardener's response to the devastation caused by the storm and the loss of his beloved Blossom Tree is marvelous and very moving. There's a lot to think about in this deceptively slim book, and I suspect readers will find themselves pondering long and deeply about some of the wisdom found within -- I know I will be. Simple, yet profound truths are to be found on almost every page of The Garden of Life, and it's most highly recommended.

The Rainbow Bridge by Brent Hunter focuses on religion in today's society. Brent believes that every religion is ultimately reaching for the same goal. He also gives some excellent advice for finding an inner peace. The author strives to find a middle ground that can connect many, regardless of race or religion. There is a variety of quotes and poems throughout the book which helps readers to understand what Brent is trying to portray. The Rainbow Bridge connects us all and the meditations provided in this book can connect anyone to this bridge. By focusing on things in our own lives, we can change our thoughts and opinions and this in turn will make for a better world.
Brent Hunter has taken a great deal of time preparing this book. The Rainbow Bridge was unlike anything that I had ever read before. The clever way in which the author demonstrated the points made the reader feel as if they, too, could achieve such goals. If indeed today's society took notice of just a few simple ideas from this inspiring book then the world would be truly a better place. As a reader, I especially liked the poetry since it was not only inspiring but very uplifting. It was as if a huge weight had been lifted from my soul. Some might try and fail at some of the ideas mentioned, but the one thing to cling onto is hope. We all should take note and continue relentlessly on our own journey. The best thing for me was the way in which it brought people together from different backgrounds or religions. The Rainbow Bridge was fantastic and inspirational. I enjoyed it and it certainly gave me a lot to think about.

Non-Fiction - Religion/Philosophy
Spirituality 101 is a non-fiction book for the religious or spiritual individual who is looking to better understand the world they live in. It is a book of ‘rules’ and beliefs about life that will help you to know the science of the world and the way that science can interact (not contradict) your religious teachings. For those who are Christian, Buddhist, or really any other religion this book will help you to understand a sort of balance between your life and your religion. Dr. Ivan Figueroa Otero has laid out a ‘study guide’ for life so that everyone can know and understand the important aspects.
This book is broken down into short chapters with tables, graphs, pictures, and more which definitely makes it easy to read. The material is heavy and those methods help anyone to understand what is being said, whether it’s a comparison between classic physics and quantum physics or explaining the characteristics of co-dependent people. The cute images also help you to understand what you should be doing with the information that you read and how it’s able to impact you and your life. I have to say that many of the ideas and ‘tips’ were interesting to me and I would like to try them out for myself. The idea of studying for the test of life is an intriguing one as well and I'm sure many readers will find Spirituality 101 a good guide on that very subject. And did I mention there’s a test at the end?

Non-Fiction - Religion/Philosophy
“In Him we live, move and have our being.” This is what St. Paul told the great thinkers of his day when he visited the Areopagus in Athens. Like St. Paul, Istvan Kolossvary is making a similar appeal to those who would be the great thinkers of our day. In The Fabric of Eternity: A Scientist's View of the Works of Providence, we are led on a journey through the various arguments of science in order to see that it all boils down to making a choice between a universe with direction and purpose or a “go it alone” universe which in some ways actually contradicts the existence of free will. Through the infinite coordinate planes that can be joined in order to create the timeless space in which we live, the possibility of a God who not only sees and knows all, but can view all of it in one single glance will make your head spin. From this purely scientific discussion, one is still left with a choice.
Though I must admit that a great amount of this book was over my head, I was able to picture many of the images that Istvan Kolossvary provided within The Fabric of Eternity: A Scientist's View of the Works of Providence. From those images, I was able to construct a scientific understanding of the omniscience of God and, to me, the impossibility of any other form of explanation than that we live, move, and have our being in Jesus Christ, the Omega Point in, for lack of a better term, quantum space. What was most clear to me was the rhetorical question that Istvan asked, “Isn’t the journey itself the destination?” The journey and the relationship are the destination and the whole purpose of eternity. “For in Him we live, move and have our being.” You will be led to the point of making a very critical choice in The Fabric of Eternity: A Scientist's View of the Works of Providence; a choice that might affect your own eternity.

Can Butterflies Cry?

With the title based on the story of a special girl named Mandy, psychic medium and author Pam McCagh continues her dictations of stories from the other side with Can Butterflies Cry? through her gift of Automatic Writing. There are also personal stories from her childhood memories with her loved ones, her first encounter with the spirits, as well as her thoughts on her life as their interpreter.
They remember their stories long after their earthly sensations have disappeared. The stories from the other side are about emancipation, to find the peace that these souls need. The stories themselves vary; some are absolutely heartwarming and uplifting, others are laden with sorrow and pain, still seeking a much needed resolution. Even so, the collection of stories pays tribute to the richness, depth, and strength of these souls. In the midst of the never-ending turbulence of the present day, reading this beautiful collection of stories reminds me to not overlook some things in life that others often take for granted.
Can Butterflies Cry? neither cogently ascertains its truth for non-believers nor glorifies the ability to hear the departed souls. It will always be about the stories. In Pam McCagh's own words, “I am not the judge, just a storyteller and the listener.” She uses her gift and turns them into beautiful prose. I had to remind myself that some of these words don’t belong to Pam but the others. The result is a masterly, deeply moving record from the afterlife for us to appreciate.

“If you want to eliminate suffering in the world, eliminate all that is dark and negative in yourself.” That is a powerful statement that is only part of the wisdom Victor Byrd shares with readers in “The Bare Bones of the Buddha’s Teaching”. This book works through the components of Buddhist beliefs complete with the 12 Nidanas and the framework for raising ourselves out of ignorance and misery, the 8 Fold Path. Byrd clearly leads the reader through the content of the teachings of Buddha and how they apply to our lives today with the practice of mindfulness and a study of how to elevate our humanity by understanding the true nature of ourselves. With a strong background in traditional psychology and philosophy, he helps to bridge the gap between centuries of ‘Western Thinking’ and the Eastern traditions that spawned the Buddhist movement and spread it throughout the East.
As an introduction to Buddhist thought and practices, “The Bare Bones of the Buddha’s Teaching” is quite thorough and filled with stories, quotes and references to a wide variety of sources that illustrate in Western terms what the Buddha taught to his followers over 2,500 years ago. Without any condemnation or rejection of any other religious doctrine, the key elements to achieving Enlightenment or Awakening are carefully explained. In fact, Byrd cites examples of statements and lessons of other prophetic and messianic figures including Jesus' and Muslim writings. Byrd provides readers with a blueprint for developing an understanding of this complex system of beliefs that is intended to lead to further study and a personal quest for the serenity that comes from learning how to rise above the pettiness of our everyday lives.

Counterargument for God

I was glad to review John L. Leonard’s latest book, “Counterargument for God.” The author’s intended audience for this book is theist-agnostics and atheist-agnostics. “The atheist claims God does not exist, while a theist asserts the opposite. The agnostic simply says, “I don’t know.”” The author describes himself as a “writer with an attitude.” John Leonard always backs up his opinions with facts and documented sources. The first half of this book “offers a counterargument to the atheist argument based in science and specifically against young earth creationism.” The last half of this book defends the author’s believes and faith. Leonard begins by discussing evolution. “If evolution really explains the existence of life without God, then man is not only descended from the apes, but also distantly related to the bananas we both like to eat. The butterfly and butterfly bush are distant cousins. And the only known biological mechanism allowing this to happen is sexual reproduction.”
As I review this book, I find myself wanting to quote the author. His presentation is tactful, eloquent and stated in a logical manner. John Leonard has extensively researched the scientific arguments he discusses in this book. He also deftly asks questions that should have atheists questioning their beliefs. I was particularly impressed with the statements from the work of Dr. Francis Collins. The author states his own personal beliefs in a non-threatening logical manner. I find this book well-written and documented. It is very easy to highly recommend this book.

The Life Cycles Revolution

Non-Fiction - Religion/Philosophy
“The Life Cycles Revolution” by Neil Killion is the kind of book that attracts spiritually attuned people, open-minded individuals, intelligentsia members or “left-field” thinkers like me. The basic premise is that your life changes in 12-year intervals and is marked by Trafalgar Moments (low points in 12-year period) and Austerlitz Moments (high points in 12-year period). Analyzing your biography through an enlightened lens will help you clarify events and predict your future. Your story has recurring, symbolic themes. It unfolds just like the narratives of Napoleon, Michelangelo, Darwin, award-winning writers, famous actors and politicians. The author proves that “The Life Cycles Revolution” is totally different: unlike numerology, astrology or any other esoteric teaching, 'Life Cycles' is not a new version of an old philosophy; it is based on biographical evidence.
“Life Cycles” is the epitome of similar but different. Previously I had studied metaphysical, spiritual and occult principles; e.g., fate, destiny, free will, karma, etc. That has made this book especially interesting to me. Killion’s work is comprised of 372 pages of detailed case studies, historical events and thought-provoking questions. He simplified abstract ideas through the use of layman’s terms, icons and the analogous train ride to Revolution Place. His background in psychology and management consulting affords him keen insight into human behavior. “The Life Cycles Revolution” is a follow-up to Killion’s first best-selling book “Life Cycles.” This book is extraordinary. Reading it has the capacity to change someone's life completely. It is highly recommended for anyone who questions the purpose of life and seeks to explore all options.

Non-Fiction - Religion/Philosophy
"Mary Magdalene Beckons" by Mercedes Kirkel is an outstanding spiritual, self-help book, which is based entirely on the very close contact the author had with Mary Magdalene. Twenty-five channeled messages, followed by comments and the author’s personal spiritual journey during this communication with Mary, lead the reader to his very own, personal quest for the Divine Feminine within. We are all called to embrace everything that we had been made to suppress for centuries. First and foremost, we are called on to fully accept and surrender to pain, as this will lead us to the River of Life and the Unity with God, contrary to our tendency to numb it, with its many disastrous consequences. Secondly, Mary encourages us to open our hearts fully and to free it from the bonds imposed upon it by the system and ourselves. When opening our hearts, we are finally able to forgive, to love unconditionally, and to accept our bodies and our sexuality as another means of communing with the Divine. In doing so, we can create a better world for all, a world in whose birth Magdalene will help, as a highly compassionate and loving midwife.
"Mary Magdalene Beckons" is a book that almost called out to me to read; so compelled did I feel by the sight of the title. The process of reading the book itself led my heart to a path of catharsis, of deep purging, to the very depths of my soul. I literally felt God with me at those moments. I felt love and surrender, and forgiveness and an acceptance of myself such as I have never experienced. The knowledge that by simply embracing your Divine Feminine you can reach such profound levels of spiritual liberation is so powerful that it makes this book a must-read for everybody. It comes with my warmest recommendations and my most heartfelt gratitude to the author for sharing this with the world.
