Staying Healthy Living Longer: 7 Powerful Principles for a Healthier You! by Mary Dicaro, PT, is a much-needed book on staying fit. As the author has completed multiple certifications at several institutes and worked as a therapist, her advice should not be taken lightly. Rather than following the old adage that pain and sickness come with aging, Mary argues that there are ways to maintain your health. Outlining seven strategies that everyone can use to age gracefully, Mary emphasizes the importance of curiosity and passion in learning about healthier habits and maintaining a healthy stress level.
Considering how the global pandemic has reminded us to take more precautions with our health, Staying Healthy Living Longer could not have come at a more opportune time. While heavily relying on science, the book masterfully walks the fine line between providing irrefutable evidence for its main points and using too many scientific terms for the average reader. I greatly appreciated how Mary Dicaro weaves in several memorable quotes that further illustrate her arguments. I also loved how the book was organized, as I found it easy to look for a specific part when I read it for the second time. By reading this book, I realized the importance of having a correct sleeping schedule. This lesson was difficult for me as a university student since I often had to sleep late to finish all my assignments. For anyone looking for ways to improve their overall health and extra motivation to maintain their fitness, you cannot possibly go wrong with this book!

Reclaim the Rebel: 12 Rebellious Acts to Achieve Unconditional Love for Your Body by Lizzy Cangro is a self-help guide that eschews the messages women have had pounded into their heads their entire lives. Cangro reaches deeply into the female psyche and pulls out all the mental and emotional barriers that keep us from loving our physical selves. The book is broken down into its twelve promised acts, each of which is structured by a unique format. These include a brief overview of the act, the illusion of false ideologies that necessitate a rebellious act, the rebellious act itself, the exercise to implement the act, the battle that will likely rear its ugly head along the way, and a summary of what the act is at its conclusion for quick reference when we need it.
While reading Reclaim the Rebel, I was kind of looking around the room to find Lizzy Cangro. It was as if she knew me so well that she had to be hiding in a closet, spying on me. Lizzy? Are you there? When she was nowhere to be found amongst my one-size-too-small dresses that still had tags, bought in anticipation of losing that bit of extra weight so they would fit, I redirected my attention to what Cangro had to say. This was not a difficult task as the book is styled for ease of reading and the writing is so clean and well-executed, one might feel it is a conversation with a friend and not really a book. The most touching of the twelve to me is called Trust Your Gut. Cangro shares her battle with anorexia and the loss of control in a hospitalization. The advice she received was everywhere. The act when it comes to feeding our body is simple: tune out the chatter and listen to your body. Craving carbs? Have some. Stop dieting. Start rebelling. This is an excellent book that will certainly resonate with those lucky enough to read it.

One Disease: Redox Imbalance: How Stress Becomes Disease by Michael R. Sherer is a self-help book that could save your life. This author explains how redox (reduction of oxidation) imbalance in the body is responsible for stress-induced disease. As we have all read and learned, stress can contribute to several health problems, but Sherer describes how redox is responsible for almost all of it, from diabetes to cancer, to mental illness. He has accumulated a lot of information based on thousands of Pubmed articles and uses this to show you his innovative idea. Besides this information, the author explains in easy-to-understand language how to improve your health in various ways, from exercise to diet, to stress-reducing activities, since most illnesses and diseases can be prevented.
Redox imbalance may be a new concept to most readers, but it makes so much sense once you're reading the book. Understanding it is the first step toward better health and less stress. It could save healthcare expenses, anguish, and even lives. Researchers are aware of it, but this book seeks to educate the general public. The information isn't difficult to grasp, and I highly recommend it. It doesn't claim to be a miracle cure; it just encourages readers to learn about it and helps you sift through the medical information you hear from all sides. I gravitate toward sensible self-help books that give inside information on ways you can live a healthier life. For this reason, One Disease: Redox Imbalance: How Stress Becomes Disease by Michael R. Sherer could be one of the most essential health books you'll read this year.

The book provides pictures and illustrations of the exercises and daily routines Tracy employed on Gary, focusing on the muscle groups needed to be worked upon for a successful road to recovery for stroke survivors.
If you ever had to deal with health issues or have a close relative or friend on a journey to recovery, I highly recommend Dear Stroke, You Suck. Non-Fiction - Health - Fitness
Vibrant: A Groundbreaking Program to Get Energized, Own Your Health, and Glow, by Stacie Stephenson, is the fresh, motivational guide you need to make a new start on the new you. Coming from the philosophy that we can control much of our health just by the choices we make in food, exercise, and attitude, this book offers practical advice most health and wellness books don't. It's all about accountability. Of course, some health concerns can't be avoided, but some can, and this author shows you which parts of your life and health you can do something about. I like the message that it's never too late to take charge of nutrition and fitness; never too late to become vibrant.
As you read Dr. Stephenson's book, you will begin to realize that your health isn't just in the doctor's hands, it's in yours, in most cases. So many give their lives over to whatever health condition may come, trusting medication and the healthcare system to correct any problem. But this guide is about preventing health conditions. Diet and exercise are things we can control, and this book explains how to use them to maintain health and vitality. Besides diet and exercise, you'll learn about the importance of quality sleep, boosting the immune system, why social interaction is necessary and more. With supplements, detox, and positive thinking being popular subjects during the last few decades, the doctor explains what they are and how they work.
Working on the self takes some knowledge and self-discipline, but it can change and perhaps save lives, and that's why this book is so important. In addition to all of this good information, which lays the groundwork for a lifestyle reset, you'll get actionable advice like a two-week meal plan, healthy recipes, and assessment tools to help you figure out where you are health-wise. The author doesn't ask you to make all these changes overnight, but in baby steps, which can make goals a lot easier to set and keep, like cutting your energy crutch in half, or finding a healthier replacement for it. Better health can begin on the inside, and it can begin with you. If you're ready to take the first step into a healthy, vibrant future, let Vibrant by Stacie Stephenson be your guide.

The Greatest College Health Guide You Never Knew You Needed: How to Manage Food, Booze, Stress, Sex, Sleep, and Exercise on Campus by Jill and Dave Henry instantly caught my attention as a mother and teacher. This guide kept its promises: it is comprehensive and engaging. Students need all the support they can get, particularly in these times of crisis when it is hard for them to study in a relaxed way and take care of themselves. This knowledgeable, fun companion explores a wide range of topics, including food, exercise, stress, sleep, and even “booze”! It contains inspirational stories from the authors but also, and maybe more importantly, numerous quotes from actual college students, which make this guide even more relatable and valuable.
The Greatest College Health Guide You Never Knew You Needed is wittily written and extremely entertaining as well as exhaustive, useful, and handy. It is written in a no-nonsense, delightful way. Advice is given but Jill and Dave Henry make sure students understand that they are not giving a “recipe”, a “diet” to be followed blindly, but are sharing sound advice to feel and learn better. First and foremost, the authors explore what students should do to be healthier. I particularly liked the food chapter but they are all important and well-designed. I highly recommend this comprehensive and engaging guide which is bound to help students get on the path of better health as they learn and graduate. Actually a must-read for teachers as well as students.

Baby Got Back In Her Pants: A Simple Plan to Thrive on a Plant-Based Diet by Christin Bummer is much more than just a health and fitness book, it is actually a combination of various books. Indeed, it is first and foremost a guide, which makes you understand why you have not managed to keep your word when you wanted to lead a healthier life, or simply lose weight. It is a comprehensive and fun workbook to guide you further and help you make good decisions one step at a time, a guide to cooking healthier food, with recipe ideas that are neat and delicious (and so simple), a mentoring program (with a Facebook group I have already joined), a newsletter, numerous free bonuses (audiobook, workbook, recipes), and so much more!
Baby Got Back In Her Pants: A Simple Plan to Thrive on a Plant-Based Diet by Christin Bummer kept me up twice because (unlike such personal development books in general) I could not put it down! Christin is so encouraging, so welcoming and friendly that you just want to learn more about her, about her journey to a healthier and thus happier life, that you seek advice to launch on the same path. This book is engrossing and helps you figure out what prevented you from becoming vegan (for instance). I have been trying to stop eating dairy products for a while and this book has given me the impulse to really try again one baby step after another. To top it all, Christin is never judgmental and this type of book is exactly what most of us need. Thank you for such a treasure!
