Fiction - Action

The Dawn of AI is a work of fiction in the science fiction, dystopia adventure, and thriller subgenres, and forms the opening novel of the Paper War series. Penned by author Ryan LeKodak, the work is best suited to the general adult reading audience. In this chilling futuristic work filled with grim technologies, near-future catastrophes, and dark disasters, we are introduced to the tragedy of Mayday. In this AI-run transportation nightmare that causes millions to die worldwide, conspiracy rears its ugly head. Was it all just a simple accident, or is there a sinister subplot resulting in deliberate slaughter across the globe?
Author Ryan LeKodak has crafted a thrilling and deeply suspenseful science fiction novel with a lot of food for thought. The story plays out across different elements to cover this global disaster from many different angles, all of which ultimately weave into the central debate about the dangers of letting our lives be totally ruled by AI systems that we may have created but have no true guarantee of ever fully controlling. As these debates become a more and more popular theme for novels, it’s refreshing to see a talented author like LeKodak take the trope into the dystopian disaster novel niche and deliver an action-packed tale that gives just as many blockbuster thrills as it does intelligent technological questions. The plot and its themes are the primary focus, but in the ensemble cast of characters caught in the crossfire, each one has good solid development and moments to shine. Overall, I would certainly recommend The Dawn of AI to enthusiasts of intricately penned and exciting science fiction everywhere.

War of the Harbingers: Deathwind is a work of fiction in the science fiction, action, and adventure subgenres. It is best suited to the general adult reading audience and was penned by author Brad Pawlowski. In this thrilling work that moves at a mile a minute, we find ourselves embroiled in the exciting world of interstellar conflict with Nathan Stryder, formerly a simple college student from Earth. Plucked from obscurity and plunged into this dangerous situation, Nathan uses his savvy ways to negotiate himself out of captivity and barter for his sister's freedom, but doing so requires him to serve in his saviors’ military. Here he meets a kindred soul, Arista, and begins to learn about the world around him and the friends and foes that wait around every corner.
Author Brad Pawlowski has crafted a wonderfully comprehensive work of science fiction that leaves no stone unturned in its development. The layers of worldbuilding and concept that form the bedrock of the story are solidly developed, with a particular interest in the Meraki Dominya and their culture, attitudes, and history. The alien threats are well-realized, not just as the plot's big, exciting danger points but as a separate force with their own internal logic and fully-rounded society. Then there’s Nathan and Arista, whose character development, close narrative, and sharply-penned dialogue allow us a deeper insight into their attitudes and feelings, moving the plot forward effortlessly with naturalistic exposition but also bonding us to them. To top it all off, the fantastic pacing of the novel allows for slow-burning moments of suspense and character development that suddenly spill into tense twists, conspiracies, battles, and heroic moments with cinematic depiction. Overall, War of the Harbingers: Deathwind is a novel that fans of well-penned, sensational science fiction simply must read.

Welcome to the Silent Zone

Fiction - Action

Welcome to the Silent Zone: A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Thriller by Csák Viktor is a supernatural dystopian novel that revolves around four main characters seven years after the Breakdown, marked by the fall of humanity to zombie-like creatures known as ferals. Siblings named David and Megan flee an outpost of survivors. Pregnant, Megan neither trusts the motivation of those who have provided sanctuary nor is she willing to live forever in that single place. At a pivotal moment, they are saved from ferals by the unlikely alliance of Cassius and Abigail, whose near familial relationship remains intact despite the heavy personal loss on both sides. Megan has a secret in her belly, and possibly in her entire being, that can change the survival game radically...but first, they really do have to survive, and when ferals choose who they are going to hunt they will not stop until they've caught their prey.
Welcome to the Silent Zone by Csák Viktor offers a slightly different angle to the post-apocalyptic 'virus turns people into killing machines—who turn other people into killing machines' genre, choosing to refurbish the wheel rather than reinvent it. The writing is clean and Viktor is skilled in action scenes that keep the pace at full speed ahead. Once I got to the desirability of Megan and her baby, it did strike me as uncomfortably similar to the hook of a wildly famous video game, but in a novel format, it was fun to be immersed in the world and get to know the characters. Abigail is the most likeable and her youth gives us hope for the future. I think what I like most about her is a naivete that is refreshing in her innocence, like her only having her second drink ever in the middle of the book, and her overlooking of a document that is, in boldface font, literally called the NEW WORLD MANIFESTO, as if it's unlikely to be anything important. I laughed because that's something my own kid would do. Overall, this is a polished novel with a great, action-packed plot and a standout in the genre. Very highly recommended.

Determined to expose the truth, stop the war, and save countless lives, Marcus Bowen embarks on a dangerous journey that could possibly save both planets. Our favorite characters are brought together for the biggest fight of their lives. It has been an adventure following the protagonists and the antagonists on their respective journeys, putting myself in their shoes, and understanding them through each of their own riveting stories. It has been a real pleasure to watch Marcus and his team grow and learn throughout their trials and overcome their struggles.
This is a futuristic, science-fiction novel with amazing swordfights and a tricky political climate. The book's plot took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions: anticipation, fear, happiness, sadness, and many more! Zero Solar is the grand finale of the Inner Solar War Series and it is intense. A Dream of Shadows is a work of fiction in the fantasy, adventure, and action subgenres, and forms the opening novel to The Shadow Bidder series. The work is best suited to the general adult reading audience. Penned by author Peter Eliott, this electrifying fantasy thriller introduces readers to the dark and treacherous world of Hell's Labyrinth. This is a city where danger lurks around every corner and the line between good and evil blurs into shades of gray. The novel is a masterful blend of post-apocalyptic dystopia and romantic thriller, offering a unique and captivating reading experience. The character of Vazeer the Lash, a criminal with a cultured personality, is both complex and compelling. His journey from a life of smuggling to a mission to overthrow a notorious power broker, The Raving Blade, is filled with suspense and unexpected twists.
Author Peter Eliott's writing style was a standout feature of this work for me, with vivid, atmospheric descriptions and a gripping, fast-paced narrative that kept me turning the pages until the bitter end. I also always appreciate a varied ensemble of characters in a fantasy tale, each with their distinct skills and backgrounds. Elliott has crafted such realistic attitudes, approaches, and worldviews for each figure that they feel totally realistic to the world they live in. Combine this with the imaginative plot events and superb narrative skill for total immersion, and you have a novel you can’t bear to put down. What results is a thrilling and unforgettable tale of action, intrigue, and moral ambiguity that challenges conventional notions of good and evil, making readers question the true nature of the characters and the fantastic world they inhabit. Overall, A Dream of Shadows is a genre-blending masterpiece and an absolute must-read for fantasy enthusiasts and fans of suspenseful storytelling.

He assumed a new identity, as per usual. This time, he was Cy Ford. Ford landed a job as an officer with the DNR in Michigan. Aloof and introverted, he was the strange one. But somehow, Ford and his colleagues, Jett and Avery, became drug mules for Niko Krowchuck across the Canadian/American border. Work was smooth until Oscar Easter, the Detroit drug lord, coveted Niko Krowchuck's territory. A pawn in the game of thrones between two elephants, the trio of Ford, Avery, and Jett, was caught in the middle. Unfortunately, Sheriff Anson got suspicious of the officers, especially Ford. When chaos erupted, Ford became a target, and he had to bolt. Oscar, Niko, and Anson all wanted him for different reasons. Who will get to Ford first? Cold Run by Michael Dault has the answer.
Cold Run by Michael Dault is a fast-paced and action-packed novel that I couldn’t stop reading. If you love stories about cartels, intrigue, and plenty of action, then this book is for you. Cold Run is a riveting tale of survival, betrayal, wit, and loyalty that got my adrenaline pumping. Michael is a talented storyteller who brought the characters to life with his descriptive narration. I loved the plot and unique storyline that never ran out of shockers. Ford was my most favorite character for his focus, resourcefulness, and survival instincts. Drifter Sam also endeared himself to me with his unassuming yet formidable personality. I fell in love with the sled dogs, especially North. His ferocity and loyalty until the end made me teary. Anson reminded me to prioritize family because they’ll always be there for me, even when all is lost.

Golden Light is a work of fiction in the fantasy, adventure, and mythological fiction subgenres, and was penned by author Anne MacReynold. The work is intended for the general adult reading audience and works as a parallel tale to Red Sand, the first book in The Creations Saga. Our protagonist is Lucifer, who finds himself awakened amidst the chaos of Earth, but is called away from his base desire to hunt by a female figure seeking protection from the First Man. What results is a very engrossing tale of desire, passion, trials, and triumphs that is sure to keep readers turning the pages from cover to cover.
Author Anne MacReynold has crafted a most engrossing work of fiction that takes a fresh and original look at the characters from the traditional biblical tale and really dives into the most interesting aspects of their psyches. The work certainly encouraged me to seek out Red Sand so that I can also see it all from Lilith’s perspective too. The author creates a sensually rich mood with the attention to detail in their atmospheric language, setting a suspenseful and mistrustful air with lexical and descriptive choices that inform both the characters and the plot as it progresses forward. I particularly enjoyed the arc of Lucifer’s struggle throughout the story and his battle between domination and longing was realistically portrayed and very psychologically detailed. Overall, I would certainly recommend Golden Light to fans of highly atmospheric descriptions, intense interpersonal drama, and mythos and magic enthusiasts everywhere.

After Charles of Anjou (Re Carlu) from France vanquished Prince Conradin in 1269, Sicily became a shadow of itself. Re Carlu used his fierce Angevin soldiers to subdue, dominate, and make the lives of Sicilians unbearable. However, seven-year-old Aetna Vespiri and her elder brother, Cicero, enjoyed relative comfort and safety until one day, Aetna’s life came to a grinding halt. The Angevins invaded her home, burnt it to the ground, killed her father, and took Cicero. But she escaped for years and learned to become a stiletto and combat master. The crossover of the Vespers heralded Aetna’s return as a new woman—Siciliana! Siciliana was ruthless, fearless, and on a mission to free Sicily. However, with unlikely allies and an unexpected enemy, will she succeed? Siciliana by Carlo Treviso has the complete details.
Siciliana by Carlo Treviso was an action-packed, suspense-filled, and captivating novel. If you love historical stories with formidable heroines, this is your book! Siciliana exposed me to medieval Sicily between 1269 and 1282, much of which history books do not cover. This novel effortlessly blended fact and fiction using descriptive writing. I enjoyed Carlo’s storytelling style, which was appropriately dramatic. I also loved the plot, storyline, and development. The unpredictability and twists worked for me. Siciliana got a standing ovation from me, but Manon and Tziporah were two other powerful women who held the fort. Both women made giant strides, never hesitated, and never missed a beat. Don Rapaci and Fra’Diavulu also kept me at the edge of my seat, regardless of where they stood. I enjoyed the power play, government politics, religious manipulation, and the desperation for power. Carlo Treviso is a talented writer, and this novel deserves a place on our screens.

Fiction - Action

The fourth book in the Northern Wolf Series, Northern Dawn by Daniel Greene brings you a promoted Lieutenant Johannes Wolf, a man who has been changed by the ongoing war. Rising from the ranks, he has managed to escape Libby Prison, vowing never to return or speak about it, as if it were a curse. The war is still far from being won, and he is not only fighting for himself but for his regiment and country as well. Brigadier General Custer is going to request assistance or his brigade will be destroyed down to the last man. Custer’s luck will be tested, as it is only a matter of balancing between survival and disaster. As for Wolf, his new appointment will be tested in the largest cavalry battle.
As inherently astonishing and powerful as the story of Custer’s Luck is, it has never been so well-depicted in historical fiction as in Northern Dawn. Daniel Greene’s well-conceived narrative ends up giving readers a ringside look at the American Civil War. With vivid details, the novel serves as a searing reminder of the horrors of the only war fought on American soil, and the noble sacrifice of the brave men who fought for freedom. There is plenty of dramatic interest in this novel that measures the intensity of Greene’s storyline. From start to finish, it proves to be a focused depiction of history, and it reaches a thematic point. This is a military history series that is worth reading. Greene is very much on solid ground in this fine story that is powerful and dignified.
