David has an old soul, yet his mind is on shaping the future. He recognizes the systemic barriers that disproportionately affect Black women in accessing financial education and resources. This insight drives him to create an online platform offering tailored financial literacy courses, mentorship, and resources specifically designed for Black women in Harlem. In The AI Revolution Will Not Be Televised, David L. Wadley narrates David’s journey, highlighting various financial strategies aimed at empowering women. Just as David begins to see the fruits of his labor and enjoys a beautiful relationship with Onyx, one of his reliable LinkedIn connections, he faces threats from unexpected adversaries who seek to undermine his efforts and disrupt his growing platform. His life is in danger, and he must navigate a treacherous landscape filled with deceit and betrayal while protecting his vision for empowerment.

The AI Revolution Will Not Be Televised effectively illustrates how AI-driven financial systems can exacerbate existing inequalities. David L. Wadley weaves a narrative with insightful analyses, underscoring how marginalized communities are affected by algorithmic biases and the concentration of financial power among those who benefit from their oppression. David's story is an inspiring tale of individuals who rise above expectations, study the system, and use it to their advantage in pursuing equity and empowerment. The narrative delves into important aspects of Black American culture, such as music, family, and community. The support David receives from those who believe in him and his dream sparks revolutionary change, not only in Harlem but across the globe. I loved that Onyx played a significant role in this change; she remains committed to David's vision despite the troubling circumstances. The book features intense moments, some sexual content, and an amazing plot twist that you won't see coming. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates stories of resilience and empowerment.

In Illustrious Solitude by E. Nigma, Serena is a celebrity musician who is very difficult to work with because of her attitude and behavior toward others. At the start, her publicist catches her having sex with her husband, but Serena is not remorseful, and even fires her. Kenya has been her friend for a long time, and she suggests next time they hire someone from a small company, which leads to James being hired. His first assignment is to cut a deal with the former publicist, and he does an excellent job. James cannot understand why Serena behaves the way she does, especially to Kenya, whom James sees as a very good person. One day, James escorts Serena to an event, and later on, she finally opens up to him about her life. What could have made her the way she is?

Illustrious Solitude by E. Nigma offers a glimpse into the celebrity world and the kinds of things they go through that people do not see. This thought-provoking work also got me thinking about how upbringing and experiences can change a person’s personality and the need for those around such people not to be too harsh but to try to understand the cause of the bad behavior. I loved the vivid descriptions of events and places, which helped create a mental picture of what was happening. The steady pacing kept me intrigued and eager to discover the next twist in the plot. The characters were well-developed, and the reader will also appreciate the flawless flow of the events, which leaves no room for confusion.

A Little Something to Hide by Craig Brown dives into the complex lives of travelers on a coach journey from San Francisco to Albuquerque. As passengers reveal hidden truths, the novel paints a vivid mosaic of different human experiences, exploring the weight of secrets and the sometimes surprising bonds that connect us. Brown's richly drawn characters and sharp prose create an atmosphere of tension and intrigue that blurs the line between trust and deceit. This compelling literary debut demonstrates remarkable insight into the human psyche, making each revelation more exciting than the last, while weaving together all its individual stories into a captivating tapestry of connections.

Author Craig Brown has a flair for crafting complex characters that evoke empathy even in their deepest flaws, and the character work immediately stood out to me and kept me hanging onto every word of this road-trip-style drama. The dialogue is realistically penned but also well-balanced to convey unspoken things between the lines. Brown's prose has both poetic beauty and suspenseful momentum. The layered narrative structure is cleverly done and mapped out well as it mirrors the complexity of the different concealed truths that are inevitably going to bubble to the surface. This tension keeps readers gripped as the spotlight shifts to different characters to find out what they're hiding. I was completely absorbed by the way Brown explored vulnerability and deception. His examination of trust and human connection runs deep on psychological and emotional levels that are well-played in the way he describes every thought, word, and deed of the unusual cast of characters aboard the coach. There's also a masterful sense of pacing amid all this dramatic tension that ensures each revelation lands with maximum impact. It never feels like a moment is either overdone or thrown away without proper resolution. Overall, I strongly recommend A Little Something to Hide to readers who appreciate sophisticated literary fiction that explores the depths of human nature.

In Stolen Sunshine, Dani Donari weaves a gripping tale of mystery, murder, and betrayal that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end. The story begins with a haunting image: a young woman's lifeless body is laid out in the reeds at the edge of Lake Pontchartrain on a boat — her wrists slit. Janae didn’t get back home after work and when Officer Reese Hawkings is entrusted with the case, she sets out to find her. On the surface, it looks like suicide. However, as Reese begins to unravel the tangled threads of this crime, she realizes that this is no ordinary murder. With the help of her trusted mentor and partner, Detective Alan Brenner, Reese sets out on a dangerous path across the country to track down Janae's killer. However, as the stakes grow higher, Reese faces danger, uncertainty, and the dark secrets of her past.

Stolen Sunshine is Dani Donari's first entry in the Reese Hawking series. It is a gripping crime thriller with elaborately written characters who are genuinely flawed. Reese is an intriguing, clever, and determined character. Her relationship with the victim’s mother and the victim is beautifully written and is at the heart of the skillfully imagined and flawlessly executed mystery. Even the supporting cast of characters is intelligently explored. Donari balances descriptive prose with sparkling dialogues to move the narrative forward, making it an engaging tale for crime mystery and thriller fans. This unnerving and propulsive tale delivers the entertainment I love in detective and crime fiction, with believable characters and tension that builds up steadily.

In Shadows in the Wind by McKinley Aspen, Kathryn Beck becomes involved in a perilous undercover mission for the organization Hope & Global Support (HGS). Tasked with dismantling a crime syndicate in Alaska, she forms uncertain friendships with her neighbors, Tom and Jessica, who later betray her. Imprisoned, Kathryn uncovers corruption within the profit-driven prison system, operated by the Paolucci family. Together with her friend Ashley, she plans an escape to thwart the schemes of the villain Jacquelyn Paolucci. During their mission, Kathryn discovers her unique powers and familial connections. However, the escape inadvertently allows Jacquelyn to escape as well. As Kathryn and her team reunite, they face a new threat posed by a cloud-like entity that took her father and now targets Tom's family. A tense and dangerous confrontation unfolds, leaving them facing an uncertain future.

Shadows in the Wind is the explosive second book in the urban fantasy Cogitatio series and McKinley Aspen does an exceptional job in keeping the tension rolling throughout the entire novel. I think what really stands out in Aspen's writing is the way every single scene involves both emotion and a plot-pushing element of suspense that is lost in most other contemporary fantasy books. For example, in a scene where Kathryn reunites with Scott in a prison visitation, she is so overcome with emotion that her response is physical and as readers, we can feel that moment intensely. But Aspen does not leave it at that and also has Scott hint at a plan and an implant that, in the hands of a less skilled author, would have been relegated to another protracted scene. Aspen wastes no time in this adrenaline-filled, fast-paced, and well-crafted story and it really pays off. As part of a series, the book drops a bombshell revelation that leads in the direction of book three but makes good on all the promises to readers and doesn't leave us hanging with loose ends from this book. Very highly recommended.

On Love and Death and Belonging by Daphne Wright is a story told in vignettes and revolving around three characters, Fiona, Brice, and Adelina. Brice, diagnosed with ALS, grapples with daily struggles, including a weakening body and emotional turmoil. Fiona, a medical professional, reflects on her encounters with Brice and other ALS patients during her demanding shifts, where staff are underpaid and overworked despite the importance of what they do. Adelina, navigating her own life challenges, is deeply impacted by the ALS aspect when she encounters Brice and reflects on the implications of the disease. As the stories progress, Wright evolves the focus to Medical Assistance in Dying, societal attitudes toward it, and its implications for those dealing with ALS, as the lives of three unique individuals converge.

On Love and Death and Belonging by Daphne Wright is a deep and intentionally thought-provoking novel that puts the personal and equally controversial right to die with dignity at the forefront of three character arcs. I am an American living in Europe, where voluntary assisted dying for those with debilitating terminal illnesses is legal in certain countries, but I have not actually read a book where the storyline pulls together the patient, carers, and staff and equally explores their perspectives and lives. The writing itself is well done, and Wright addresses the situations of characters beyond their work with authenticity and compassion, allowing Fiona and Adelina to be developed in their own right alongside Brice. There are some moments of levity, like shopping for a “gay urn,” which, apparently, is a thing, to juxtapose with the more heartbreaking scenes. The conclusion is bittersweet, and Wright leaves a little to the imagination, making for a story that puts the finale in the hands and minds of readers. Very highly recommended.

Driving For Justice is a work of fiction penned by author Justin K Kojok in the literary and interpersonal drama genres. This compelling narrative is set in a vibrant city where John Sanbian, a high-flying lawyer turned Laafia car driver, encounters a tapestry of human experiences through his diverse passengers. Each ride offers insights into the city's pulse and human complexities, from an ambitious college student to a high-profile executive concealing vulnerabilities. As John navigates these stories, he reflects on his past and contemplates his future, leading him to establish a pro-bono legal clinic. This journey of self-discovery and empathy underscores the importance of justice, human connections, and redemption.

Author Justin K Kojok utilizes a keen sense of character and emotion to craft an immersive novel that taps into deep reflections on modern life. The vivid portrayal of fast-paced urban living and the myriad of characters John Sanbian encounters made the city feel alive and bustling with stories, packed with realistic dialogue touches, sharp characterization, and bold atmospheric language. Each passenger's narrative adds layers to the overarching story of interconnected lives, revealing the multifaceted nature of human existence and shaping John’s character more with each encounter. This makes John's internal struggles and his transformation from a disillusioned lawyer to a compassionate driver all the more compelling, and this journey builds with perfect pacing. The book's message about finding redemption and purpose in unexpected places was both powerful and inspiring. In true literary fashion, the work begins as a slow burn that packs a harrowing punch by the end. Overall, Driving For Justice is a highly recommended read and a poignant reminder of the importance of empathy and the enduring quest for justice in our complex world.

A Chinese Remedy: Mercenaries in Suits Book 1 by Shawe Ruckus introduces us to two eccentric and somewhat reluctant investigators. Chance Yang is flown to London to investigate a suicide in Holborn. What seems cut and dry is anything but, and Chance’s aloof, wise-cracking boss Felipe Kazama is testing his patience. As a mergers and acquisitions consultant, Chance’s skills are put to the test when he’s contracted to play bodyguard to Catherine Roxborough. At first reluctant to accept the need for a bodyguard, Catherine grows fond of Chance, so much so that his inevitable departure creates a space in her house and her heart. But Chance is a professional through and through. From London to Shanghai, Chance is willing to stop at nothing and use his meticulous skills to solve the mysterious case and bring closure to all involved.

The story is fast-paced and quick-witted. Felipe is the wise sage to Chance’s often stoic character. His seemingly quirky stories and parables belie his wisdom and the fact that he knows more than he is letting on. I also enjoyed Chance and Catherine’s romance. They found each other at just the right time, while busy overcoming their pain and mourning. Shawe Ruckus does a magnificent job of detailing picturesque London and its various attractions. By switching character viewpoints, Ruckus creates the illusion that we are part of the case and we are figuring it out along with the characters. However, A Chinese Remedy is filled with mystery through and through and although some mysteries are solved, many more are introduced, hopefully to be solved in the next installment.

As The Secrets Turn: My Darkest Secret Book 3 by B. Truly is a completely engrossing romantic suspense novel about family drama, secrets, forbidden love, and self-discovery. Justin and Madison thought that Ocho Rios was the most romantic place to marry. But the trip to Jamaica proved to be quite challenging, and bad luck seemed to follow them. At only twenty years old, they each had a complicated past. However, right before the wedding, Madison had her palm read, and she learned that there would be many terrible obstacles and tragedies in her path, leaving her skeptical about her future. Will Madison and Justin make it to the altar, and if they do, what tragedies will they have to face?

Forbidden love and family drama have never been more alluring than in As The Secrets Turn by B. Truly. There is a mystery, suspense, intriguing characters, and a touch of the supernatural to be found. This enthralling novel is so beautifully written and haunting that it captured my attention right away. It’s filled with many dark secrets, twists, and sisterly drama that left me breathless and clinging to the pages, wondering what could come next. The story is packed with romance, heartache, and also wisdom. I love Madison for her non-judgmental nature, her ability to fight for justice, and her never giving up despite all her dark secrets, fears, and vulnerabilities. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a great suspenseful read.
