Encountering the Great I Am: With His Name Comes Everything by Judy Jacobson explores God's divine plan through an exploration of His divine name and focuses on this as a primary question. The question is addressed through the evolution that occurred between His command for His name to be remembered by each generation and how we came to know the names of the Lord, God, and Father. Jacobson focuses on this mystery and incorporates various sacred objects such as sacred fire, the tabernacle, the Spirit of the Prophecy, and the Ark of the Covenant. This book goes into what these objects have in common while delving into the ways in which God communicates with His people.
This book is written from a personal place with Judy Jacobson weaving her own experiences throughout. Encountering the Great I Am is an ideal resource that teaches while also providing a connection to Jacobson through her honesty. At the forefront of the book is an exploration of God's name which serves as a biblical study. Underneath are elements of healing, sharing, and compassion for those seeking answers, are curious about God's name, and need a deeper connection in their life. The tone of the book comes from a devoted place that is thoughtful and curious with Jacobson exploring sacred objects in a way that will have you seeing them differently or with a deeper meaning than you had before. Jacobson's writing style makes her book relatable and makes it easy to form a deeper spiritual connection. You will also find ways to communicate with God. Thought-provoking and earnest, this book provides a great companion for a Bible study as well as personal research. Encountering the Great I Am is an honest, poignant, emotional, and uplifting book that explores ways of communicating with God, a study of His name, and Jacobson's personal experience.

Beyond the Scale: Emotional Healing from Food Addiction by Debra Moss is a non-fiction self-help Christian guide for those who struggle with unhealthy relationships with food. Moss uses her own life experiences in the narrative as she addresses the progression of her food addiction, which can be traced back as far as the age of six when her grandmother warned that if Moss' weight wasn't curbed as a child that she would grapple with the effects for the rest of her life. Moss breaks the book down into four distinct and interconnected sections: Mind, Soul, Body, and Putting It All Together. These are then further distinguished by addressing the crux of the psychological, spiritual, and physical nature of food addiction and establishing scripture-based guidance to pierce the veil of its toll.
It takes a great deal of courage and an even greater amount of faith for an individual to go public with their story of addiction. It is frequently met with surprised concern by people beyond the addict's immediate circle and is almost always followed by a frown, a few polite nods of the head, and the realization by the addict that the person they have just confided in now views them as someone with a problem that is their own fault, and that stems from a deep moral weakness. Of course, addiction is so much more complex than that. In her book Beyond the Scale, Moss' application of scripture to every element of the journey means readers are able to navigate a way out of the darkness of addiction into the light of progressive healing in all aspects. I was most moved by Learning To Love Yourself in which Moss writes, “You were never meant to live a life of deprivation, especially when it comes to love.” Later, Moss expands this to include not only self-love but the love God has for the individual and the love the individual has for God. This is the only way to truly seek progress over perfection. The book is well-intended, well-written, and profoundly instructive, and I have no doubt others who read it will be able to view circumstances with open eyes and open hearts.

When life throws a stick into the spokes of our bicycle, we often sit down, head in our hands, and say: “Why me?” What if we really should be asking ourselves: “Why not me? How can I turn this into something positive?” In her book Lemonade! Squeeze Your Challenging Life Experiences into a Successful Business, Melane Mullings shows us that our lemon experiences can be used to make a difference. The moments that could have broken us might just be the reason for our existence. She gives a list of 17 basic ingredients to find our purpose in life and to turn it into a success, into our Lemonade! Continuously guiding, reassuring, and rooting for us, she willingly shares the pivotal lessons she has learned on her own road to success. After all, life is a journey, and we should be enjoying every single moment.
I have to admit that I do not readily open books listed as non-fiction or even business-related. Perhaps it’s because of my constant search for my own purpose that I selected it, and I’m happy I did. Melane Mullings has set out the 17 strategies in such a way that pitfalls and failures are expected as part of the journey, and to look forward to it. She has written this book in a way that is easy to understand and easy to follow. The terminology is not daunting. I love the fact that the entire strategy is centered around a Higher Power, a complete and utter surrender to His Grace and Guidance. Her passion saturated this book and had no other place to go but to the reader, filling them up. I am definitely keeping Lemonade! near me and will be returning to it again and again.

Christian - Living
Love Is: A Year-Long Experiment of Living Out 1 Corinthians Love by Kim Sorrelle is an exploration of living a life of love pursuant to one of the most profound thoughts written on the subject in Corinthians. The book is divided into fourteen chapters that are titled according to how 1 Corinthians defines love. Beginning with Love is Patient, the author expounds on the idea of what patient love is and how it influences the moments when it is present. It then ends with a chapter on Love Always Perseveres that gives reasons why true love never gives up. All the examples given are based on hands-on experiences and observations by the author, and she ends every chapter with a short prayer—devotional acts with deep, personal meaning that you can use to uplift your heart and mind.
Kim Sorelle walks her talk as she crosses cultures from the United States to Haiti to affirm her epiphany on what makes God an ideal definition of love. Sorelle is not a love expert, but like everyone else, she knows a thing or two about love from its universality and timelessness. She also has a healthy understanding that it can hurt. I like how she puts a semantic play on the words to come up with profound ideas. When she writes that you can be lovesick, loveless, and lovely, she gives you a digestible concept of love, an idea that for most scholars and intellectuals has a great deal of structure. So what is love really? If you prefer an experience-based explanation of the subject with spiritual leanings, reading Love Is could help.

WOW!! This book just blows me away. Trisha K. Campbell not only has an interesting topic, but she has wonderful writing skills. In Eight Was Enough, she tells how God led her and her husband, Dave, on an interesting journey of building a family composed of three natural-born children and five special-needs adoptions. If you have any connection with children who have special needs (I refer to them as differently-abled), then you will love this book. If you have a child, then Trisha’s advice and examples in this book can help you be a better parent. If you have multiple children, then this book is an essential read for you. The house rules, peg system, and co-parenting tips presented by Trisha are some of the best parenting tips I have ever read.
I was a Christian minister and pastoral counselor for more than thirty years. I wish I'd had this book to give to my clients back then. Trisha K. Campbell has written what will become a parenting/family classic in Eight Was Enough. This book is real. It is not just theory. It presents parenting in all its nitty-gritty. Success as well as “failure” is given. Along with parenting skills, this book will increase any Christian’s faith. It will encourage the reader to follow the direction of the Holy Spirit and trust God to provide where He leads. I highly recommend this book to all. Trisha’s style is engaging and inspirational. She does not toot her own horn, although she could. However, she does focus all praise on God Who gave her and Dave the guidance and strength needed to take care of such a large and diverse family.

When a person faces devastating life challenges, there is a choice about how to respond to adversity. Both authors of this book lived through a major difficulty (which each shares) and learned how to transform these frightening events into enriching life lessons. Dr. Allen Lycka and Harriet Tinka have written an inspirational, nonfictional work titled The Secrets to Living a Fantastic Life: Two Survivors Reveal the 13 Golden Pearls They’ve Discovered. Each chapter describing a pearl begins with a story illustrating the main lesson. Numerous insightful quotations are sprinkled throughout the chapters. Written as a conversation between the two writers, the book will cause the reader to ponder deeply – and to smile often. It is a thought-provoking and entertaining read.
One of the most fascinating aspects of this book is the in-depth sharing by each writer. There is an authentic honesty that reveals down-to-earth, relatable people. The pearls range from topic areas such as forgiveness and tenacity, balanced with laughter and enthusiasm. The timeliness of the book is also remarkable, as the current pandemic and its associated fears are also addressed. Again, this topic highlights the theme of how one responds to a negative situation is what is important. The Secrets to Living a Fantastic Life, penned by Dr. Allen Lycka and Harriet Tinka, is a treasure chest full of eloquent and intriguing thoughts. This book would be perfect for anyone who struggles with life’s challenges, this year or any time. Best of all, more books by these two authors are planned!

You will learn to better connect with your body, fitness, and health. I've tried all kinds of exercise regimes but already Get Active, God's Way is giving me results. I'm getting up early, 'owning my day,' and rather than dreading that walk, Cathy Morenzie has shown me how to walk 'with God' - such a blessing. Highly recommended.

Stevenson Jones penned Sink or Walk on Water with the intention of encouraging others to live a life dedicated to God. In this book, Stevenson shares stories from his life as an African American trying to make his way in this world. He humorously shares his philosophy of life, which keeps the reader’s attention. His outlook on life is to see things from God’s perspective, trust in Him, and always do what is best for His children. One of the principles Stevenson shares is that sometimes God removes certain people or things from our lives to elevate us. Elevation sometimes comes after isolation. While covering a multitude of topics, Stevenson does not forget to discuss finances and credit. His advice is invaluable, not only for African Americans but all those who wish to lead lives dedicated to God.
Sink or Walk on Water was authored by Stevenson Jones to share the experience of his first thirty-two years of life and how God has guided him. Stevenson desires to lead people to Christ and feels that God has given him a story to tell. He knows how to tell stories. God has blessed him with the ability to keep the reader’s interest, writing in a unique style that was new to me. Stevenson writes the whole book as if he is talking to his editor and answering her questions, setting Stevenson up for his great story-telling approach to all the various topics. This book covers life in its fullness. God desires to bless His children as they live a life of obedience, and Stevenson gives all glory to God for all he is and all he has.
