Kelly and her husband adopted a young girl from China who had experienced the trauma of being in different homes. While the principles in this book can help any parent improve their child’s life, I like that Kelly puts God’s love and grace in the center of all she learned. This is not a book you will pick up and read straight through. You will want to take time and digest all of Kelly’s wonderful wisdom. This book deals with many themes, including opposition, perfectionism, people-pleasing, anxiety, fear, trauma, catastrophizing, and more. Reading this book will equip you to help your child mold their brain into a joy-producing powerhouse.

Fortunately, she received a revelation that opened her eyes to God's unconditional love and grace. Time to Really Live Free is a book that documents the lessons she learned from her revelation. Her newfound knowledge led her church to turn on her, but this did not stop her new way of living. She began to relearn what having a meaningful relationship with God meant. Her understanding of sin, forgiveness, the law, and grace were restructured, and her life of freedom in Christ began.

The book begins by listing different situations where people may be supported by their anger, but they choose to forgive and/or live peacefully with their circumstances. The author continues to illustrate the value of forgiveness through examples from other cultures, scripture, and personal experiences.
Captive Set Free will speak to the heart of the reader, encouraging them to take the path to salvation through love and forgiveness. The call to action is clear, as almost everyone has a situation they need to resolve, and the words in the text motivate readers to take positive steps to relieve themselves from the burdens weighing them down. One of the most poignant passages of scripture is quoted in the middle of the book, and the conversation between the apostle Peter and Jesus about the number of times we should forgive spoke to my heart. Valerie Limmer points out that humans are inclined to sin, and the Lord forgives us, so we should exercise the same compassion for those around us.
Limmer used many examples from her life and included relatable questions that will resonate with her readers. The book is a wonderful complement to daily scriptural studies, as it focuses on love and acceptance as recommended by Jesus.
