Into His Presence: Encountering the God of the Prophets by Napoleon Burt is a Christian non-fiction and historical theology guide that canvasses the Old Testament prophets in order to reconstruct the approach readers take toward Bible study, particularly as it applies to their perception of God. It's the interactions and the accuracy of the historical timelines, through the lives and eyes of the prophets, that is the driver of Burt's work. The chapters are separated by encounters which span from the non-writing prophets—characterized as prophets whose stories are not in books that carry their own name—through to the final Old Testament prophet Malachi, last because the messianic prophecies are fulfilled by the life of Jesus Christ. Each chapter includes the setting, the story, the encounter, the message, its impact on each individual prophet, who were all notably very different, just as any other people on the planet now or then would be. Finally, each chapter ends with a summary that contains charts and graphs to tie the work together.
It's immediately evident that the compiling of information and the pure act of putting pen to paper to create Into His Presence required more than just painstaking attention to detail, even when details are generally considered to be scarce. It took an act of faith. Faith in the message, faith in the ability to convey it appropriately, and faith that those who read it will have the capacity to look with renewed eyes and an open heart. Napoleon Burt does an exceptional job with the delicate balance of using a narrative that is simple enough to understand while still maintaining the discerning, conversant recording of the encounters of the text. That text, of course, being the Old Testament. I found the most enjoyment in chapter five, Encountering Jehovah and His Seventh Century Prophets, which is historically significant as the rising of the Babylonian Empire, and biblically significant as Burt succinctly points out, “through the use of sixty first-person singular divine pronouns and fifty-two third-person singular divine pronouns, Jehovah is declared to be the Holy One.” This is an outstanding piece of work. Very highly recommended.

Caregiving is soul-crunching, spirit-bending, body-wearying work because it is redemptive work hence it should only be reserved for the truly courageous or the blindly naïve.
Precious Lord, Take My Hand will resonate with all caregivers and the idea of having a question at the end of each chapter helps to reflect on personal experiences and put them down on paper. Grow in the Grace by James Callen is a book about the Christian experience and our service to God. Starting with the path to salvation and then going on to how to navigate our life of service to God, this is a well-crafted and inspirational book. The book is divided into six parts and twenty chapters, each one going over steps to lead us to a closer relationship with and service for God. Each chapter starts with a story, either personal or biblical, that illustrates what lesson will be dealt with. Jesus' dealings with Peter are used in each chapter to further help us see the lesson being taught. From Jesus' first meeting with Peter through his walk with him by the Sea of Galilee after his resurrection, Peter's life shows the trials, tribulations, failures, and victory that Christians can have in their walk in service to God.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It painfully reminded me of my own life as a Christian. Although I have been a born-again believer for 55 years, it showed me how little I have accomplished in the service of my savior. Each lesson is taught using the scriptures to back up the lesson being presented. I was deeply moved by Grow in the Grace, and have begun reassessing my own life and starting to make changes that will put me back on the road to acceptable service to God. James Callen has written a book that I would highly recommend to anyone, believer or non-believer, as there is a powerful message here that is applicable to anybody.

Myers is a profound and thought-provoking book that gives good insight to the various views of atonement and explains the non-violent view of atonement. The book also speaks about humanity, sin, forgiveness, violence, justice, and the Scriptures, thereby throwing light on God and His relationship with everyone. The author thinks it is important for the sake of Christian living and theology to understand why Jesus went to the cross, what He accomplished on the cross, and what role the Father played in Jesus’ death on the cross. The purpose of the book is to have an understanding of God in line with His full revelation in Jesus Christ.

Though there are numerous views of atonement, the book summarizes and explains the four most common views of atonement. The author gives a lot of information about God, Jesus, the Holy Scriptures, and many other factors related to Christianity that makes it practical and understandable to readers. The author reiterates the power and presence of God and His grace through this book. It is a good book when it comes to clarifying a lot of questions about the Bible and the Scriptures, and broadens readers’ knowledge about atonement and how much we are all loved by God.
