Children - Educational
Little Jimmy Says, "Same Is Lame" by Jimmy Vee is an entertaining book for children. Jimmy is just five feet tall and unusually small for a man. He tells us how every individual is different from each other and each one has their own special ability which makes them unique. Jimmy can do a lot of things because he is short. He also likes the fact that he stands out in a crowd instead of getting lost in it. Many a time, Jimmy is the butt of jokes because of his size. This book conveys a beautiful message of learning to accept one's uniqueness and to use it in a positive manner.
The theme is very interesting and relevant and the author has touched on a topic happening in society. He has put it across beautifully so that kids can understand it well. The illustrations are lively and they convey the concept with a lot of clarity and crispness. It is a highly encouraging book that will boost the confidence of readers and motivate them to succeed, irrespective of their drawbacks.
The message: 'We are all special in our own unique way. We all have our talents to work and to play' is an awesome message for kids to rid them of their insecurities and convert their so-called negatives into positive points. I would recommend this book for all kids. It is a must-have in everyone's personal collection, as well as schools and libraries. Little Jimmy is indeed an inspiration to all of us!

Bucket Filling from A to Z
The Key to Being Happy

Authors Carol McCloud and Caryn Butzke do a beautiful job of weaving a story of how an individual can be happy using the letters A to Z as bucket fillers. They carefully explain at the beginning of the book that people fill others’ buckets every day in various ways. Soon they take the reader along this alphabetical journey, exploring how each letter can display a word that will enable the reader to learn about how that particular letter/word can help the reader to become a better bucket filler. Taking a young reader through the alphabet, letter by letter, and examining what that letter could represent is fun and creative. This is a joyful way to expose a child to new words and positive ways of making one choose happiness over being sad and rejected.
Illustrator Glenn Zimmer does a wonderful job of creating each boy and girl and their fine facial expressions during the good and maybe not so good moments found within the story. The book is very colorful and engaging, not only in the story, but in the illustrations as well. This is certainly a well-written and illustrated book, which should be in libraries and homes everywhere. This book gives a strong reinforcement for young readers to find the positive in life to keep their buckets filled, as well as to share with others so their buckets can be filled with joy. The authors challenge the reader to become a bucket filler and find happiness to share with others on a daily basis.

Have you ever moved to a new place and felt all alone because you had no friends? That’s what this beautiful book is about. This young girl was not only new with no friends, she couldn’t speak the language of those in her new hometown. This girl finds comfort in the beautiful garden at her new home, the mysterious wind becoming her first imaginary friend. As she spends time in the garden, the trees begin to talk to her, and these three trees became her friends as well. This leads to a beautiful imaginary world to this young one, helping her cope with the loneliness she faces.
This is a lovely book for young girls, and especially young girls who face loneliness because of being in a new place. They are sure to find peace and encouragement in the special values taught in The Trees Have Hearts. Mrs. D does a wonderful job of reaching out to kids in a unique way in this book. The beautiful trees give warmth and peace as they spread their blooms throughout the garden and into the hearts of those who read this book. The cover is beautiful and appealing, and the illustrations and colors throughout the book are adorable, heartwarming, and peaceful. Any young girl would want to snatch this book from the shelves to have as their own. I encourage parents of young girls to purchase this one for your child’s library. And even if you haven’t found yourself moving lately, this book can still have a positive impact on your child’s self confidence.

Toby the Pet Therapy Dog Says Be a Buddy Not a Bully

Charmaine Hammond continues the Toby series with her latest book “Toby the Pet Therapy Dog Says Be a Buddy, Not a Bully.” In this installment Buddy visits a classroom of students; the teacher announces that Buddy is about to receive an award: The Gold Star Friendship Award. He earned the award for being a “buddy, not a bully.” Miss Charmaine explained to the class why Buddy won the award; another dog took Buddy’s favorite Teddy Bear and tore it up and then the dog growled at Buddy. Toby barked for help and then told the other dog that being a bully is not nice. The children learned what to do when they were bullied.
I love the way the author Charmaine Hammond explains a therapy dog’s role and the lesson of how to deal with a bully. It is unfortunate that bullying is so rampant in our society that it makes it necessary for children to be taught this lesson. The illustrator, Rose Anne Prevec, is a talented artist; her art work complements the text. Children will love the bright and colorful illustrations. Toby comes to life through the tale and pictures; his personality shines through as he interacts with the children. I believe children will respond positively to this book and the entire series, which should be in every school and public library.

Would you like to live in Arizona? And do you know what the state of Arizona is like? When you read this book, you will find out just what this really cool state is like. The front of the book has a map that shows a lot of important cities in Arizona and it tells you all about this being the Grand Canyon State. It tells how wide and how deep the canyons are, and has pictures to show you what it looks like. It also shows you the best way to get around in the canyon. And if you don’t live there but go on vacation to Arizona, you will find many things you can do while visiting this beautiful state.
"Arizona Is Where I Live" is an awesome book inside and out. The book is well-written, fun and exciting and the pictures really fit the words written so well. The colors are beautiful and I love the color book and crayon type illustrations. They are so beautiful that I just enjoyed looking at the pictures. And I really like the blank pages in the back of the book for children to draw something about where they live, as well as write a story about the state they live in. This encourages children to think, draw and tell stories on their own. My four year-old niece loves to look at the pictures, and make up a story pretending the pictures are about where we live in Virginia. Books like this are very valuable to children and can teach them many things. "Arizona Is Where I Live" should be in every school library and would be a great book for classrooms and a child’s personal library. I encourage you to pick up a copy today. You will be very pleased!

"I Wonder What It’s Like To Be" is a children’s book about a little boy that walks around all of the time wondering. And the very first page explains wonder, so here it is:
Welcome!
I walk around and wonder,
I have a hat that says I do.
As I see new things I wonder,
DO YOU wonder too?
-Wonder (that’s me!)
Do you ever wonder what it is like to be a bird or a flea, or a fish in the sea? Well, Wonder wonders about these and many other things, but all he can do is wonder.
I love this book! The story is exciting and interesting, and is told in the form of poems. The illustrations are adorable and are sure to capture the attention of any small child, with the vivid colors. The pictures are so in tune with the story that a child can look at them and read the story for themselves through the pictures. And Wonder is adorable. I just love him! And as an added bonus, you can go on the book website and listen to a song written by the author, which is added at the end of the story. And yes, I love the catchy tune so much that I found myself singing it quite a bit! And my four year old niece loves it and listens to it all the time! Go out and purchase this book! You can’t go wrong. Your child will love it, and you will find that it will provide many hours of entertainment for your child.

"Shelly Goes to the Zoo" is based on a series of children’s books that teach parents and their children American Sign Language. In this installment, Shelly takes her friends, Maria and Kasey, to the zoo with her dad. Shelly is very informed about each animal they come across and explains the background information on each animal that they see in addition to showing the readers the sign language that is associated with the animals. There is a picture and a short description attached to each sign language where it makes it easy for the readers, parents, and children alike, to follow along. Shelly and her friends go through many animals in the zoo. There is even a sign language alphabet chart at the back of the book.
Author Kentrall Martin combines education and fun in her innovative new series of books on Shelly expertly. Parents and children can learn sign language while they read, making this a very interactive means to learn about sign language. Parents and children can use what they learn in this book to develop further games later on with the sign language they learn. Illustrator Marco Luperon accompanies the story with cute, instructional pictures throughout the book that enhance charm of the storyline. This book is such a great learning tool for all children that I highly recommend buying these books. I love the unique concept that the author incorporates into all her books. It is education and learning at its very BEST! I can’t wait to read these books to my nephews and nieces so that we can learn sign language together and develop a game out of it together which we can enjoy for hours. We can take the sign language everywhere we go!

Who's in That Shell?

Children - Educational
Authors Anita Elco and Katherine Stelmach have created a book that early grade school teachers will love using for lessons on science and on accepting and aiding others. "Who's in that Shell" tells of elementary school teacher Mrs.Davis and her class as they take on hermit crabs as classroom pets. Illustrator Michael Patch has done a good job in illustrating the text which is formed in the style of "choose your own adventure". The class begins with Merman, the hermit crab, but they quickly add four more hermit crabs when Merman is obviously lonely. The children interact with the hermit crabs who are busy interacting with each other. The text offers the young reader choices, as on page 26 the reader can either continue to a certain page if one hermit crab doesn't help another, or continue to another page if the one crab helps the other. Conversation bubbles on many of the pages in this book offer interesting facts about hermit crabs that are relevant to the information on each page. The story concludes with an online site that offers further information about hermit crabs, their habits and habitats.
"Who's in That Shell" is well-written and a good resource for classroom teachers as well as the young reader who wants to learn on their own. Merman, Mura, Mama Jazz, Purple and the elusive Bleu behave as hermit crabs do with their crawling and falling. The conversation bubbles that offer information on hermit crabs make this book especially appealing. The book's print size is perfect for use by everyone and children's libraries in public and school settings will welcome "Who's in That Shell".
